Can't blame anyone for leaving due to lack of playing time. Adlee doesn't surprise me, nor would Marta leaving. Players gotta play. I CAN blame key players who leave for a paycheck. They will have short term gain, and then they will have the rest of their lives to look in the mirror. A person's true self is often revealed when it comes down to money.

The thing is, they might have gotten more time if they stayed.
If we really do see Beers and Lily leaving...wow... Beers, Timea, TVO, Lily, Adlee, probably Dono, potentially Marta...

Maybe playing time is most important. It feels old fashioned to say so.
Certainly for Adlee (last year's Pac-12 3 point season %age leader), Marta.
Timea coming off the bench, wonderfully and awardedly, versus Kelsey, for more than 20 games!? We wise ones lamented that coaching decision often.
Dom's speed, passing, thievery, penetration underappreciated 'til way late?
Conversely: Dono's ascension to starting after game two was coaching acumen; Lily's increased minutes as her rebounding, blocked shots, and slim, lengthy defensive prowess increased. These two cases: PT awarded, deservedly.

She didn't get much PT so I get this one. That's on Rueck. She seemed to produce when given the chance but there must of been something about her game that wasn't good enough for SR. This has always bugged me about SR - or about *my* perception of SR. First, I am not a WBB coach, and he just finished as runner-up for [national] COTY, so with that very large grain of salt - the one fly in the ointment I have seen with SR is this "stubbornness" to play a certain player he is openly very high on, who from many box stats is NOT producing, while a seemingly talented player languishes on the bench, even when they come in and produce or give the team a lift when given a limited stint. And persisting with limited stat player over possible breakthrough player in games where limited stat player is an obvious weak link being exploited by the opposing team. All of this could be my imagination, but I have obviously had a vivid imagination over the last several seasons.....And I'll name no names other than point out that Adlee fits the narrative. In this day and age, it invites transferring, and even in the 'good old days' would lead to unhappy bench riders - and certainly has left fans like me scratching my head wondering what SR sees that isn't visible from the cheap seats. Go Beavers!

In regards to your prediction above, please do not leave us in suspense.
Who are the two you are predicting will be the next to go? I am guessing Beers and Hunter will be your selections.

I can understand him/her wanting to let the player make their own transfer announcement. It sounds like it is most likely Hunter and Beers. If that is the true, we will have lost our 4 top scorers to the portal. If this is the case, we have gone from a team capable of making a deep run in the NCAAs to also ran in the course of a few weeks.

Unfortunately you are correct. 02beav,
Since you are on quite a roll here, do you expect Coach Rueck to still stick around at OSU or will he go elsewhere, retire , or ?

It has to be extremely frustrating for Rueck to have rebuilt the program to then seeing his roster gutted through the portal. He is obviously going to have to hit the portal to rebuild again. I am just not sure how much he has to sell now that we are in the WCC.

I expect him to stay unless something great comes up and he becomes a candidate for that. Options are pretty limited. He's making a million dollars are year here for as long as he wants.

Elite 8/final 4 coaching staff, history of success, good to great crowds/fan base, West Coast travel for league play, Hawaii and likely some larger school trips in non league, playing time, an opportunity for someone who is looking for just that.

He always talks of being a teacher and of those aspects of coaching that go beyond basketball. I think he also likes a challenge, having already tackled two... at George Fox and Oregon State (round 1). I believe those things will keep him coaching despite the unpleasant effects of NIL, conference realignment and the portal vortex. Of course there is also the loyalty to and love of Oregon State as an alum and lifelong fan.
