Won't wayne be the highest paid coach in the wcc next year? He and Few are pretty close, but yes I think Wayne has him beat by a few dollars. No one else is even close.

For those that like to make comparisons if by chance the Beavs get to 6 maybe 7 conference wins next year please don't compare it to 5 this year and show that we've improved. It just will show we were in a less talented conference. Thank you. Uh, you saying that the WCC is every bit as strong as the Pac-12? Somehow I have my doubts. That conference has 2-3 pretty decent teams, but this year's Beaver team probably would have been in the fight for 4th or 5th at least, maybe higher. At which point you're looking at roughly 10-ish conference, maybe more this season. Next season depends completely on retention and recruiting. If Pope/Bilodeau/Rataj/Ibekwe all bolt, I'd be hard pressed to see 5 conference wins there next year. If they all stay, I'm thinking 12 or more is quite doable, I'd call it 12 minimum. To get to the top of the conference will probably take some recruiting, or a heck of a lot of development with KC and Michael (both of which could make a jump in level of play this year with hard work) and probably another 2 or 3 players. Ideally the coaching staff, whoever it is, can find (or develop) a full-time center that can play at the level of KC on his good days or higher. They also need a quality point guard that is a floor general/assist guy to free up Pope to move to the 2 spot. I think I just saw that men will play 18 conference games next year. No idea how the other teams in conference will be hit by graduation/transfers, but if Beavs aren’t hit by any main guys transferring my WAG at this time is .500 in conference. I think they’ll lose a couple/few games at home and given road woes not sure I see them stacking up a bunch of away wins.

Part of it depends on which teams they play also. with 18 conference games and 10 other schools that means you play 8 teams twice and 2 teams once. Does OSU get Gonzaga, WSU, St Mary's each twice? or just once? at home/road? That could make a difference in the W/L total

That could make a difference in the W/L total I believe Commish said either or both OSU and WSU won’t get Gonzaga at home next year. Sure if somehow we draw the easiest schedule possible will have an impact, but still think likely .500 in conference.

The problem is that Barnes is looking for change when what is needed is big cash. In all reality what recruit is coming here with tinkles future? They have no recruits coming as of now... anyone remotely interested early on sign elsewhere. As usual he'll pick up those late signees that had very little interest of JC types that needed to qualify. There is hope for some quality portal transfer, but seeing how that has worked out?? Barnes is hoping for an upturn as moving to the WCC will give WT some patsies similar to the recent NC schedules. As of yesterday the WCC is rated #11 (Pac12 #6), with members at: WCC OSU's '24 NC 2024 Pac12 St Mary's #16 Linfield (non D1) Arizona #4 Zags #17 Troy #139 Colorado #27 USF #66 App St #72 WSU #45 Santa Clara #104 Nebraska #37 Utah #52 LMU #197 Baylor #14 UW #67 Pepperdine #224 Pitt #44 Oregon #68 San Diego #257 UC Davis #169 USC #92 UP #298 Cal Poly #341 Stanford #114 Pacific #359 Utah Valley #164 UCLA #115 UTSA #265 Cal #124 Idaho St #251 ASU #125 OSU #162 So, the last place 2024 Pac12 team would have the 4th ranked NET in the WCC. OSU, depending on the scheduling with 11 teams, could play (10) games vs opponents well below their own 2024 NET rank. This is not counting the typical weak NC schedule, unless they are again invited to some tourney with some P6 teams. Which of course they averaged 20 point losses. AD Barnes sees current improvement(s) in... the play on the court? Recruiting? Or, the possibility of a much weaker conference to make WT "appear" like he's turn the corner... again. And, or course any semblance of continuity will require the bulk of this roster to remain at OSU. But, of course who can tell... with a team with (22) total D1 wins over three seasons (you know a good one season win total), (11) Pac12 wins over that time, consecutive 12th, 11th, 12th place finishes, and consecutive NET rankings of: 255, 222, 162 (ohhh no... improvement!). So, I guess Barnes is right... how in the heck can it not get better?! Also need to include WSU in the equation. I’d be surprised if we don’t get two games against them.

Maybe……. It’s the kiss o’ death. How many times do we hear, “We support him 100%!” Then, two days later……. It's the dreaded "vote of confidence" from the AD.

I will go on record and say, “I think we should live with the man UNTIL we know how the whole LEAGUE affiliation s%#t is set in stone. This would be a nonsensical time to make a change. Besides…… he’s a good man. A worthy representative of OSU. IF I WERE the fan(atic) I once was, I’d want him gone YESTERDAY. Things have changed. For ME, anyway.

If we win 19 or 20 or 21 games next year and go to the NIT or somehow the NCAAs I won't give a rat's ass that the WCC wasn't quite as strong as the Pac-12 was.
WT is coming back. Make the best of it.

Barnes probably backs him because there isn't the money to buy him out of his contract. That figure is a lot of money no matter who has the deep pockets to help buy out the contract.

Hmmmm, here is the headline from the article linked in first post:
Oregon State AD Scott Barnes backs coach Wayne Tinkle, believes men’s basketball will ‘take a significant step in 2024-25’
I know Barnes had to say something like that, but still pretty funny (and sad).
