Apparently not good enough, Meck sent down today. Probably delaying his service time clock but it’s still horsesh*t

I had not realized Wade is on the 40-man roster, so when he was sent down he was optioned, which counts as one of his option years. Maybe someone can explain if he was on the 40-man last season to also count as an option year, or if he can still be optioned 2 more seasons. Either way, it seems positive that Wade hit very well once the calendar flipped to March, and he is on the Giants 40-man roster heading into the 2024 season. McCovey Chronicles article |

Once he is out of options, he must be DFAed, waived or released to be removed. Being on the 40-man means he also gets paid a little more than a MiLB teammate who is not on the 40-man. |

Also - remember the "limited number of options" is counted by years. So, Meckler was optioned in 2024. He can be brought up and down from the minors to the majors a dozen times in 2024 and it counts as ONE option year. I do believe that each player has 4 option years. What I cannot tell you for sure is if 2023 counted as an option year for Meckler. I *think* that if he was added to the MLB club and never sent back down to the minors in 2023, it's NOT an option year, but don't quote me on that. |
