Great adjustment by Gavin to quit chasing the down and away slider and curve. I’ve seen many of his at bats this year where last year he would have chased now takes that pitch. I know he’s still adjusting but I do have one concern. He is seeing the ball so long now that he has lost some aggressiveness. He’s been jammed several times and has been late to other pitches. Never thought I’d see him jammed or late, not with that bat speed. It’s a fine line and with his talent he will get to his happy place.

His offense is much better, but it seems like (at least on the radio, I've not seen a game yet) that a disproportionate number of fly balls are going over his head or dropping well in front of him. Accurate, from anyone who has watched him in several games this season?

Right now it appears his plate discipline is far better but for now there seems to be a real pause in his Power.

It almost seems like he is trying to hit more for contact than swinging for the fences this year.

His goal is to be a very good MLB hitter. This is an adjustment he is making to quit chasing sliders out of the strike zone. As he gains confidence in his ability to recognize that, he will start hammering the inside fastball again.

Interesting.

Pitchers will also be forced to pitch in the zone or give him a freebie the more disciplined he gets too. Baz is not only a great hitter but his plate discipline is also fantastic. Dudes OB% is absurd but if they put to him their era gets wrecked.

An adjustment Gavin had to make to have a Pro career. Scouts immediately identify any holes in your swing or that "you can be pitched to". That will earn you a 30 or 40 grade in a hurry in the Hit Category. Gavin has to close that hole by laying off a pitch he can't handle. I would think a good deal of cage work is being done on making contact on low and away breaking balls.
You can't beat Turley with heat and you can't beat him on the inner half, you have to pitch him off speed and away, preferably pitching him just outside of the zone. That is becoming more difficult as he is drawing a fair amount walks by tightening up his strike zone. He is becoming a complete hitter which is testimony to his desire to improve and the patience our coaches are showing him during the transition.
He doesn't see a lot of fastballs in the zone but as he continues to show discipline in the box, and draws a couple of BB every game, eventually they will have to pitch to him, and don't worry, he has not lost any bat speed or power.
Wait for it.
