North Carolina? That seems unusual, especially with so many quality teams in the Carolinas.

This one is highly questionable. I use 4 or 5 different sources to verify a commitment and in this case, only Perfect Game shows this guy committed anywhere. Allow me to share a recent experience I had posting a Perfect Game listed commit. They showed a kid from either Pennsylvania or New Jersey (I forget) as a Beaver commit and I posted it. His player profile didn't justify a Beaver offer and once I researched it a bit, found no one else showed him committed anywhere. I checked with a source in the athletic department - they had never heard of him. Needless to say, he was never part of the signing class. I'm not sure how much checking PG does prior to listing a player's commitment but that one never flew.
For obvious reasons, our coaching staff prefers to recruit the western U.S. and the western Provinces of Canada. North Carolina is a long way from Corvallis, for the kid and for us. Look at Drew Bryant's stats for a big reason of being "questionable".
SOPH in 2022: Junior Varsity
JUNIOR in 2023: Played in 23 games as a reserve outfielder, Slash was .161/ .257/ .161 with 418 OPS. 35 plate appearances, 5 hits in 31 At Bats, 9 Runs, 3 RBI, 0 DBL - 0 TRP - 0 HR. 3 BB. 1 HBP, 17 K's, LOB 23. PITCHING: Made 6 appearances in relief. 9 IP, 17 Runs, 12 Hits, 13 BB, 6 K's, 2 HBP, 4 WP, ERA was 8.56. WHIP was 3.00.
SENIOR in 2024: Through 5 games. Slash is .267/ .353/ .267 with .520 OPS. 18 plate appearances, 4 hits in 15 At Bats, 4 Runs, 6 RBI, 1 DBL-0 TRP-0 HR. 2BB, 3 K's, 6 LOB PITCHING: 1 appearance, 1 IP, 1 BB.
Maybe this guy has an incredible "UPSIDE" 😁😁😁

Found some, wasn't impressed, but I figured I had the wrong guy, or maybe he's a pitching prospect? I took a little more time today, yeah, that was the right guy the first time.
You're more than likely correct, I don't think he's much of a prospect, unless they really see something where he goes JUCO or something. Even then...I don't see it.
The self reporting aspect of PG makes it less than ideal for knuckleheads like me, so good catch!

I made that same mistake with that kid I mentioned above. Somehow PG is informed of a commit that is falsely reported or misplaced with a wrong school. It could be self reported. When we land a real commit, other sites will usually have it verified and up within a week.
OSU isn't in the habit of offering a prospect that was a part time player as a Junior and languishing as a Senior. How do you translate those stats to a legitimate D1 prospect? The metrics are "short" as well.
Put it this way, we might be wrong but I would be shocked if we were.

He's probably a nice kid who really enjoys playing baseball, but won't be a D-I prospect - like 99% of the other kids playing HS baseball.

Unrelated to free flowing thread... and in tune with "kid who really enjoys playing baseball"... misc. info
JFK out of Mt Angel is at (42?) consecutive wins, goes for the OSAA consecutive game win streak next week as today's game at Toledo is cancelled. Team close to my heart as I've helped out there off and on since 2007 with off season workouts and in-season help. It is 2A baseball but the kids there/at that level are highly coachable (ok... 95% are), fun to be around, and have no illusions of grandeur. It was a great respite to some of the higher level teams and AAA Legion ball. JFK has been pretty dominate for the past decade and have had many go on to play 2 and 4 year ball. Pitching... if you have it at this level you are pretty much set. If you have 2+ you can win a lot of games.
As mentioned earlier during recruiting JFK's 6'3" LHP, Ethan Kleinschmidt was a recruit, not ready for D1 as he had never really faced college level hitters. But, pretty much dominating at LBCC (12-6) early on:
4 APP 4 S 3-0 1 CG 22.0 IP 6H 0R 0 ER 6BB 38K 15.55K/9IP 0.00 ERA 0.55 WHIP
Easton Corey (6'5"/220 now), from Pendleton (coached against his Dad as a player) is progressing from arm/shoulder rehab:
5 APP 0 S 1-0 0CG 6.2IP 2H 1R 1ER 6BB 9K 12.15K/9IP 1.35ERA 1.20 WHIP
The other Frosh I like so far, is smaller at 6'1"/190 but has decent command of (3) pitches... Gabe Brabec from Ashland...
5 APP 1 S 2-0 0CG 19.0IP 5H 1R 1ER 9BB 28K 13.26K/9IP 0.47ERA 0.74WHIP
Of course CC #s do not directly translate to D1, but these kids are ahead of the curve in their development.... at least in my brief looks at each.
