Poyer reportedly signing with Miami. No income tax. Smart! Yes, but humid as hell and full of nutjobs......and no, that is not a political statement. There's a full plethora of nutjobs on all sides in that state.

Poyer reportedly signing with Miami. No income tax. Smart! Ummm - As much as I would like to agree with you, I think that only applies to home games. My accountant had worked with one of the Trailblazers, he had to pay taxes in each state he played in - since that was where the income was earned - smh. Federal is federal, where ever you go.

That is true. He will have to pay state taxes in the states where he plays road games.

Does that mean if he plays under fan expectations, he has to worry about someone keying his car, and writing on his windshield "play better", as happened when he played at OSU?

Even if you have a little ownership in a consulting firm, you have to pay taxes in every state the company does business.

And, in some cases like PDX, separate city/county "entertainment" taxes. In the NFL 1/16 of your salary is taxed in/by the local authorities for each away game. Filing involves doing it for multiple states you play in plus any others that you may also own a home, have investments, etc. Add any foreign income you may have from endorsements, or investment properties or ownership. I think Shack said he had a million+ per year in just tax prep/filing fees, with multiple people involved.

Next year, the Dolphins have eight home games, plus a game in Houston and another in Seattle. That is 10 games with no income tax. He just has to file in CA, IN, MA, NJ, NY, OH, & WI.

So, when the NFL plays a game outside of the US, are the players paying taxes to the host nation, if applicable? From what everyone has described, I guess this is true.
The things I learn here. 🙂
