Not sure if I've missed this conversation, but what's the QB situation looking like? Is rumor out there it will be Ben's to lose even with the two incoming transfers? Or is the thought that McCoy/Johnson will step up and take it? Obviously not the same level of hype around the two new QBs like there was for Chiles/DJ but one would think that there would at least be some level of competition for QB1. Ben also doesn't have the built in "advantage" of experience with the system either since I assume Gundy will be implementing plenty of new concepts/overhauling the offense entirely from Lindgren/JS.

You only need one (hopefully). Also, he’s a good one.

With all respect to Ben he has no shot. Okay that is probably not true. He is unlikely to be the starter in the fall, and I would go as far as to say if he is the starter we are probably in a little trouble here. Odds favorite it will be McCoy for a year then Johnson. As I like to remind everyone, Johnson was nearly rated the same as Chiles, both were 4* HS prospect and OSU was aggressively recruiting both Johnson and Chiles until we landed Chiles and backed off on Johnson. Gundy has signaled he intends to have an offense that plays to McCoy's and Johnson's game, rather than Ben's.

Also concerned about 1 kicker especially when that kicker has had injuries.

Also concerned about 1 kicker especially when that kicker has had injuries. It's spring ball. Likely to have more guys by fall camp. Our punters Maxwell and Windsor were both kicker/punter in highschool and did lots of camps for both too.

- Looks like we now have pretty good size across the board at WR.
- Great depth at RB with Martinez, Newell, Jam, Hankerson
- As far as portal transfers - think I'm seeing everyone but Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan the giant OT from Colorado...
- Another QB transfer was Jake Sanders who came by way of Idaho State I believe.
- True freshman enrollees - seeing Jordan Anderson, WR and Exodus Ayers DB.
- JC guys - seeing Jaheim Patterson (LB), Aiden Sullivan (LB), Amarion York (DB). Not seeing Gyriece Goodman LB...
- Thrilled to be reminded that Joshua Gray is back.
- Thrilled to be reminded that we added some large humans on the DL - Pome'e via oregon, Tygee Hill via LSU, Norris from N. Colorado.
LET'S GO!!!!

Gundy said today that Johnson is hurt so that’s going to put him behind. I wouldn’t count Ben out and wouldn’t think that puts the team at any disadvantage. Gundy said his system is very qb friendly with high completion throws to the playmakers.

I interpret that to mean pretty much the opposite of what we have seen recently. Instead of high/low slow developing 15 yd routes we're going to see short timing routes and throws to releasing backs. I would think that puts a premium on a QB who can get rid of the ball in a hurry, who can throw timing routes, and who has enough agility and scrambing ability to escape pressure and be able to throw well on the run. In the videos of both McCoy and Johnson its pretty evident they both can do those things. I'm not sure where Ben fits with this, in part because we haven't played that kind of game yet. I know he can throw on a roll and has decent speed for a designed run. He has never struck me as a scrambler.

He is an athlete 100%. Decision making and holding on to the ball was an issue for him as a starter but like others have mentioned the slow routes and options could have contributed.

It’s funny it sounds like if Gundy is successful at what he’s trying to do we would’ve been a much better team last year with him as oc. The qb has been the teams Achilles heel for a long time and a qb friendly system that allows for easy completions to the playmakers in space (Martinez, Gould, bolden, Fenwick). I think a lot of us were puzzled by lindgren inability to use the players strengths and not try to force them to be something they’re not.

It seemed like Lindgren's passing strategy was to use a bunch LOS formation and then spread the patterns to flood the more open side of the field. Guessing here, but it would seem like a good way to go with a strong armed QB and really fast receivers who generally weren't physical enough, or tall enough, to come down with a physically contested ball but were fast enough and quick enough to win a break to the outside. Problem though; as the patterns become more lateral these become really hard throws to make. A 15 yd pattern becomes a 40 yd throw. Maybe he could have used those receivers to do more crosses, drags, bubbles, to run a higher percentage of higher percentage passing plays? Would have taken some pressure off of DJU.
