This next weekend should be a reasonably tough test. I didn’t know much about CSUN, but they went 34-17 last year, and are already 9-2 this year with wins in single games over San Diego State, San Diego, and swept a three game series with Nevada.

CSUN is a tiny step above NDSU. NDSU plays a stronger schedule and plays between 28-37 straight away games to open their seasons. CSUN won 34 games vs NC schedule in the 220 range and in a the 9th rated conference. The type of conference folks on here said would ruin OSU's program if they had to play in it.
In 2024 they are 9-2 vs a schedule that doesn't include a team with a winning record as of today...
1-2 vs 3-7 Utah Valley 1-0 at 4-7 SDST 3-0 at 1-11 Utah Tech 1-0 vs 4-5 USD 3-0 vs 4-6 Nevada
It's baseball, anything can happen, but these should not be a difficult test at home for a team of OSU's caliber.

Didn't really expect them to gain ground after the opening series. At times, the Beavs looked unstoppable. At other times, they looked like they'll set a new strikeout record.
Looking forward to this weeks games.....and a few days with sunshine instead of snow, dammit.

"should not" That's the key, isn't it.

I am more than happy to bounce around from 4-8 in the polls...Being #1 puts a big target on one's back..Only time to be #1 is after the last game in Omaha!!

The Committee sucked last year, though. Worst Committee in at least eight years. Being top eight in the polls is great. Oregon State's RPI is currently 24. Only three of the Beavs' 11 wins have been against teams within winning records: New Mexico, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech. And none of New Mexico's seven wins have come against teams with a winning record. Texas Tech only has two wins against teams with winning records: Nebraska and Oregon. Oklahoma State is Oregon State's lone first quadrant win.

I think the visibility of the program increases the closer you get to number 1, and that brings in recruits. I also like having the other teams gunning for us. I think they do now anyway but being number one makes them a little more fearful.

We could've easily split the series with the Bison. Spotting 5 to any team is a bad idea. I'd like to see cleaner pitching, and defense.....as we've seen already early in the season, some pitchers are going to hold our offense down. We aren't going to bludgeon every team, every game.
