Well, with tonight's loss, the Beavs can finish no higher than 11th in the Pac-12.
11 USC 5-11 12 Oregon State 4-14
The Trojans plays the Washington schools this weekend and then hosts the Arizona schools to finish Pac-12 play.
The Trojans control their own destiny. If the Trojans go 2-2 or better, that clinches the 12-seed for the Beavs.
The Beavs currently have the tiebreaker but that can change, depending on other results. Tomorrow's games should start bringing it all into focus.
I would add that, normally, the difference between the 11th and 12th seeds is pretty inconsequential. However, this year, the 11-seed would currently be slated to play Cal in the first round, and the 12-seed would be slated to play UCLA. Of course, the 11-seed would play the 3-seed, Oregon, versus the 4-seed, Colorado, so it may all be a wash.

I was hoping to hear how the Beavers beat Utah and Colorado in the last two games of the ‘56 season under Slats Gill and how it could happen again, if the officials are fair.

I was hoping to hear how the Beavers beat Utah and Colorado in the last two games of the ‘56 season under Slats Gill and how it could happen again, if the officials are fair. Lost to Colorado in Corvallis in 1955 and in Boulder in 1956. Finished sixth in the Pacific Coast Conference (ahead of only Idaho, Oregon, and Wazzu) both years. Colorado and Oregon State would not play again for two days short of 47 years, when Oregon State travelled to Boulder again. Oregon State came back in 1957-58 and beat Utah in Corvallis. All Oregon State had to do to win the Pacific Coast Conference and play in the Tourney was to beat Idaho in Moscow. Oregon State lost 62-55, which allowed Cal to tie Oregon State and force a Pacific Coast Conference Championship Game. Cal won in Eugene 57-45. Cal went to the Elite Eight before bowing out to eventual Co-Champion Seattle in overtime, 66-62. Oregon State got swept by Utah in 1958 en route to another sixth-place finish (ahead of only Idaho, Oregon, and Wazzu). The Pacific Coast Conference disbanded in 1959 in basketball. Oregon State would not schedule Utah again for more than a decade. However, Oregon State and Utah met in the Elite Eight in Pauley Pavilion in 1966, the Utes punching their ticket to the Final Four with a 70-64 win. Officially, that was the Beavs' last Elite Eight until 2021. The last time that Oregon State swept Utah and Colorado in Corvallis was 2016, beat Utah 71-69 and beat Colorado 60-56. Craig Robinson swept Utah and Colorado to end the 2012 regular season, beat Utah 77-67 and Colorado 83-69. Oregon State finished 7-11 and finished ninth. The Beavs topped #8 Wazzu 69-64 and #1 Washington 86-84 before bowing out to Arizona 72-61. Oregon State has never swept Colorado and Utah in the same season in Corvallis other than 2012 and 2016. 2016 is more similar inasmuch as Oregon State got swept by Colorado and Utah on the road earlier in the season. 2012 is more similar in record and situation. The officials sucked in the Civil War on Wednesday. I do not remember them being that bad this year in any other game. Period. If you watched the game and came to a different conclusion, that's ok. I would still disagree.

With those two results, Oregon State clinches the tiebreaker over USC. If the Beavs and Trojans finish tied, Oregon State will be the 11-seed and USC will be the 12-seed. The Trojans still control their own destiny. If the Trojans go 2-1 or better, that clinches the 12-seed. Despite UCLA's loss, UCLA is still currently the 5-seed, and Cal is still currently the 6-seed. The 3-seed is still Oregon, and the 4-seed is still Colorado. Arizona is still #1. Wazzu is still #2. Utah is still #7. Washington has passed Arizona State and Stanford into 8th. Arizona State fell to 9th. Stanford fell to 10th. The Cardinal have now lost five straight, each by double-figures.

11th seed and "Destiny" don't seem to go together lol Plus watching parts of USC @ WSU I'm thinking that many teams will not enjoy playing them now they're at full strength. Collier and Ellis are a handful now that they are healthy. Undisciplined, very athletic, but haven't played a ton of games together.

Not as much as they'll enjoy playing us w/ our 5-6 minute killer scoring droughts that show up like clock work unfortunately

Oregon State can only take the 11th seed with two wins and two USC losses.
Wazzu beat UCLA, which dropped UCLA behind Cal for fifth.
Cal and Utah are currently playing, Utah up 10 at the half. The winner will be in fifth place after tonight. UCLA will be in sixth. Cal would fall to seventh with a loss. Utah would fall all the way to eighth with a loss.

1 Arizona 2 Wazzu 3 Colorado 4 Oregon 5 Utah 6 UCLA 7 Cal 8 Washington 9 Arizona State 10 Stanford 11 USC 12 Oregon State
Everyone bolded are locked into those spots. Oregon State will play the five-seed on Wednesday.
Five Seed
Utah will be Oregon State's first opponent with a win in Eugene.
If Utah loses, UCLA will be Oregon State's first opponent with a win over Arizona State.
If both Utah and UCLA lose, Washington will be Oregon State's first opponent, winning the five-team tiebreaker.
So, who does Oregon State want to play: Utah, UCLA, or Washington?
If Utah beats Oregon, it would set up a Tournament very similar to the 2020 Tournament. Oregon State would play Utah in the First Round with the winner playing Oregon in the quarterfinals. Oregon State played Utah in that game, the two teams' only meeting in the Pac-12 Tournament. Unfortunately, we did not get to see that one play out. Given Utah's road woes this season and Oregon State's win, it seems like we want to play Utah. But is anyone worried that we would see a different Utah in the Tournament?
Oregon State is undefeated against UCLA in the first game in the Pac-12 Tournament, beating the Bruins in the 4-5 matchup in both 2005 and 2021. Oregon State lost to UCLA in the only other meeting.
Oregon State has won two straight against Washington in the pac-12 Tournament, winning in both 2012 and 2018. It would make sense that Oregon State would keep up the six-year streak and beat Washington again.
Four Seed
Oregon State's win over Oregon in the 2021 Pac-12 Tournament is the two team's only game outside of the First Round. The Beavs have never beat the Ducks in the First Round of the Pac-12 Tournament.
One Seed
Arizona will be on Oregon State's side of the bracket. Arizona has won all six matchups between the two teams in the Pac-12 Tournament.
Eight & Nine Seeds
If Arizona State and Oregon win, the five will be Washington. Arizona State will be the six. Utah will be the seventh. Cal will be the eight. UCLA will be ninth.
If Arizona State and Utah win, the five will be Utah. Washington will be the six. Arizona State will be the seven. Cal will be the eight. UCLA will be ninth.
If UCLA and Oregon win, the five will be UCLA. Utah will be the six. Cal will be the seven. Washington will be the eight. USC would be the nine with a win. Otherwise, Stanford will be the nine.
If UCLA and Utah win, the five will be Utah. UCLA will be the six. Cal will be the seven. Washington will be the eight. USC would be the nine with a win. Otherwise, Stanford will be the nine.
Does anyone have a 5/8/9 preference?
I should note that, Oregon State played Utah in the first round of the 2020 Pac-12 Tournament and was set to play Oregon. The winner of that game was set to play the Arizona-USC winner in the Pac-12 Tournament Semifinal. The other team on that side of the bracket was Washington. A very similar situation would happen with UCLA, USC, and Utah wins.

With the news that the Huskies are firing their head coach, I wanted to run through the Huskies scenarios:
Oregon State plays Washington, if both Oregon and Arizona State lose.
If UCLA beats Arizona State, Oregon State plays UCLA with an Oregon win and Utah with a Utah win. Washington would play Stanford or USC. The winner of that game would play Arizona. And the winner of that game would play Oregon, Oregon State, or UCLA/Utah.
If Arizona State and Utah both win, Oregon State plays Utah, and Washington is on the opposite side of the bracket.
