Some interesting things I thought about when the news came up that OSU is under budget on the assistant salaries. Barnes said in November that Bray would have a salary pool of 4.85M to play with for his staff, and he came in at around 4.16M for the assistant staff.
Wasn't there some talk early on that Bray had agreed to a lower salary saying that he wanted to have the budget for assistants? Am I dreaming?

Gives him room to guarantee pay increases in the future without having to lean on the AD increasing his budget. If he just bumped everyone to the ceiling on day one, we are at the mercy of the unknown future in two years to give anybody a raise. He has $700,000 at his disposal to be used to match offers on guys without even needing to get the money from Barnes.

It will be extra motivation based upon how they perform. No more long contracts that get the beavers stuck in like with tinkle. If Bray proves that he can be a successful head coach then you can offer a little bit longer and bigger contracts.

No head coach is ever going to sign a two-year deal. Assistants almost never get "long-term contracts." I believe they have two-year deals.

I know both of those things I just meant that they shouldn’t jump into another lifetime contract or anything crazy. Hopefully Bray is ready to on if anyone underforms on his staff.
