Quote from the article "Chip Kelly is really leaving the UCLA head coaching job at the worst possible time to become the offensive coordinator at Ohio State?" Cry me a frigging river. Did UCLA give a flying you know what when the bailed on the PAC? I'm sorry, I find some of this delish. At least he waited until the season was over, and the portal closed.

Interesting article. Thanks. But I think the article doesn't focus enough on Kelly's lackluster performance at UCLA. Had he taken the Bruins to a championship game or the CFP, money would have been flowing in. It's always harder to get that cash without a decent record. I wonder if Ohio State wants Tinkle.... I will add that Chip's record might have improved $ a little, but that's not the case overall @ UCLA. UCLA fans just don't give... period. Even when I was at SC, Westwood is seen as rich public school wishing it was private. Similar type big $$ donors that spend on themselves or pet projects, UCLA athletics not typically one of them. A former teammate ending up assisting there in player ops in two sports. They had to virtually beg for anything extra and constantly hit up donors. He said there is very little former player donations no matter how successful. He told me once, "... look at all the MLB players over the years... then look at Jackie Robinson and those facilities." Have a "friend" or acquaintance that "shows" a big time facade, but really isn't? That's UCLA. OSU is by far better off when you consider our giving/facility improvements in all sports vs what should be available at a place like UCLA and Westwood/LA. UCLA does not own Jackie Robinson Stadium, it is rented from the VA. So it makes no sense to sink big money into the facility. And there certainly isn't a big enough plot of open land on the UCLA campus proper for a stadium. So they make do with what they have.

Is a long term lease and all the upgrades done are by UCLA donors. As well as all maintenence. The key to any significant seating upgrades hasn't been the lease itself. The 2013 ruling that the VA is leasing the land for several uses illegally, and the language used "rent" vs "lease" in terms of what it actually is to help circumvent VA rules. UCLA was allowed to challenge that ruling to be able to keep using the field. That challenge was lead by a couple donors and is basically a long term "stay" as of now. But, several parking sites/golf course areas are large enough and have been proposed for a revamping and baseball stadium. But, it had been estimated to take 90% funding by donors. Which will never happen. If donors cared UCLA would have better facilties.

Things were so horrible UCLA spent a miniscule 1.7 million on recruiting in '22... I wonder what Oregon State's number was?

I think that portal just opened up again today. Who kniws, maybe we can pick up another experienced player?

But he’s writhing it from UCLA’s viewpoint, not outsiders. Agreed and understood. Kinda funny how they describe the timing - seems as though according to the author, there is never a good time for a coach to leave. All things considered, I don't blame Chip at all. Remember, he was/ is the voice of reason on all of this cross country nonsense with the new, but not improved, conferences. But all I could think, in between wry smiles of Karma, after all we have been through in the last year, is "welcome to our world".
Realistically, considering where we are now, with the SCOWS decision and a new competent coach, our financial position compared to UCLA, we actually are in a far better position in the short (maybe long?) run than UCLA. My how things have changed.

Is this article about Chip or JS? Well, I'm the outlier maybe in this... but, like Chip better than JS right now. JS left in a very immature way. Chip made no secret about seeking NFL jobs. And to me this was a blatant FU to the Admin & boosters. Seems to me he knew he was "dead man walking" with lower buyout. He didn't want as much travel. Great jobs were open. Doesn't need the $. Basically an east coaster so maybe closer to his roots?? So EFF off UCLA. And, we'd welcome any of your outstanding players that are wanting a true home.

Imagine if that guy had been writing for O Live…..That would’ve been a beautiful article!
