“When that is the first conversation a recruit brings up, I’ve got no interest,” Bray said. “Never. It’s a bad sign, because are you about ball or are you just about that? Now that conversation, I don’t mind having those conversations, that’s part of the deal. And we’re doing well in that space anyway. But I want to know that this guy loves football and the things that come with football. We should talk about (NIL). But the No. 1 thing has to be football and finding the right place to be so you can be successful. If that’s not the first conversation, then that kid’s not going to work out here. That’s always been my experience.”

My son and I are always hoping that the 'shiny objects' that draw alot of recruits to tsdtr translates into high ego, low output individuals. I do believe in many cases it does.

I think we want players who want to be here, rather than just pass through for a year and transfer to chase NIL $. That's how you continue to build a program.

He's been A+ so far. The biggest thing (as always) for keeping momentum and bringing in recruits under the new reality will be winning and path to the NFL. With the reduced schedule we will need to be clock work with 9+ win seasons and keep ourselves in conversations for at large bids. Who knows where this ends up but if we can keep a good win rate and get 2-3 playoff berths in the next decade we are going to be a powerhouse program for guys who want to go somewhere to develop and play.
We need to be one of.thenbest development programs in the country. The more it's based on hard work and culture the more likely we can fend off poachers. If we can also be successful we may even bring in enough money to be competitive in the NIL game for our best talents.

I like that he's already talking about the poachers, and having the depth to be able to replace guys that get poached. If guys know they can develop, and keep moving forward in football, we can keep bringin in high level talent.

Honestly, we don't know yet, since he hasn't coached a game and those players haven't played a down. But I agree with the sentiment. It certainly appears that things are heading in the right direction.

OSU will never be in the top 30, 40, 50 ish in NIL $. Plus until something major happens not in budgeting. Hence, development of to talent will always be a "catch 22". Good players are always going to come and go. But, being a strong overall program means we'll also draw those from elite programs seeking more PT.
