OF Marcus Romero is playing his first year of college ball this spring at South Mountain C.C. in Arizona. Last year he was a two-sport athlete and a Denver Post All State selection in baseball at Legacy High School in Broomfield, Colorado. His stock has been steadily rising with the scouting community bolstered by some head-turning metrics.
Scouts like his effort and athleticism - At 6-4 and 203 pounds, his speed and power are impressive. At a recent "Pro Day" at South Mountain, he ran a blistering 6.42 sixty and sent numerous balls soaring over the outfield walls. He has a fast bat, uses an all-field hitting approach and has a high rate of contact. His exit velo at Pro-Day was 107.3 mph. Add to that the 92 mph outfield throwing velocity and you are seeing a pretty complete player.
Some questions I would have are, 1) what is his academic profile - was he a "qualifier" out of high school. 2) Was he recruited by D1 schools at Legacy? Did OSU have any interest? His skills appear to fit our recruiting profile, and we do recruit Colorado. . . (Boyd, Macias, Mejia, Palmer, etc.) What does his overall "makeup" look like? Will he transfer to a D1 school or be drafted after one year at SMCC?
It will be interesting to watch his recruitment.
