It's wild that a 6'5 215 lb EDGE/DE is a walk on these days.

It's wild that a 6'5 215 lb EDGE/DE is a walk on these days. Maybe because he’s about 40 lbs light?

For perspective on Richardson's weight:
The OSU athletic website lists the 2018 football roster as including:
17 John McCartan LB 6' 5'' 214 Fr. Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. / Santa Margarita Catholic
He's listed as 258 pounds now. I think he was a pretty good edge for us, especially the last couple of years.

It’s interesting that he also plays TE which is a position of need that Bray said he wants to address but they want him at edge. It’s probably a better fit tho obviously if that’s where they want him. I also think the TE room needs higher/starting caliber talent more than it needs depth.

For more perspective, Bray is getting guys of that size to come on as walkons willing to earn their scholarship. Hopefully this new commit will show enough to earn his scholarship early.

Stover is another good example. 6'6" and 215 coming in in 2019. Pretty light for 6'6". 248 now as a redshirt junior. And he was scholarshipped. Today a guy coming in as a developmental player with those measurables might be a PWO.

Richardson grades out as a 77 TE so they are seeing him better on the edge.
