imo, this is a power move. It says we will not settle for WCC affiliation. We are a premier baseball program, and will conduct business as such.
I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of a schedule they can come up with. I'm betting plenty of good competition will line up to face the Beavs. Not gonna win a conference, but if the wins are there, so will be the postseason.

Given the options of playing in the Mountain West Conference or the West Coast Conference, this was the correct decision IMHO.
Iron sharpens iron - The Beavers are the best and they should be competing against the best.
That is the path to elite performance and recruiting elite athletes.

The money line
Ensuring our chances for hosting in the post season. Clearly Mitch has high expectations of his program. Not just this year, but for quite some time

Looking at the Beaver's future prep recruiting classes, 17 solid commits in the '24 class and 13 solid commits in the '25 class, the coaches should have high expectations, the program is bulging with talent. The '26 class is off to a great start with 5 talented commits announced and probably a few that have not announced. The new NCAA rules have made'26 and beyond commitments off limits so our recruiting board has gone dark now.
Those '24 and '25 class totals don't account for any JC or Portal transfers that may occur following the season. OSU added 7 transfers in 2021, 4 transfers in 2022, and 4 more in 2023. On our current roster, 8 of the 44 players are transfers. Over the past 3 years, OSU has averaged 5 transfers per year and with the Transfer Portal now impacting rosters everywhere, it's likely our classes will swell some in the summer months.

Isn’t WSU Independent as well?

Isn’t WSU Independent as well? WSU baseball partnered with the WCC. So no, they are not. Would not be surprised in the slightest to see both teams play 3-5 games against one another however in 2025.

The money line Ensuring our chances for hosting in the post season. Clearly Mitch has high expectations of his program. Not just this year, but for quite some time Mitch said as much last night at Diamond Dinner. Pretty interesting stuff. While he started the night indicating he wasn't going to promise anything, before the evening was over he told the crowd it would be a good idea if they made travel arrangements to go to Omaha in June. He mentioned a number of times the personal pursuit of the legacy that Casey, and Riley before him had built. Never say never, but I'd be shocked if Canham ever leaves OSU for another job. Highlight of the night was a Q&A with Matt Boyd and Adley. Boyd mentioned that he had gotten the chance to hit in the three hole early in the year. Adley kidingly questioned that to which Boyd replied that there was only one 300 average hitter on the stage...which I guess might technically be true.
