On the afternoon of January 11th 2024, Gianna Bautista, her boyfriend Zachary Card and their roommate Thomas Collins lost everything they owned when their apartment burned down. All three are college freshman. Zack and Thomas both play football for Oregon State. Two of them are from out of state and the other is from out of the country(Sweden). They stood in the rain with only the clothes on their backs as they watched their apartment burn, not knowing if their cat made it out of the flames. They thought they lost their cat “Pooka”in the fire along with all of their possessions. When they got word from the fire department that Pooka had been rescued they were beyond thankful.
Although they are completely overwhelmed, knowing they have to rebuild their lives from the ground up, having each other and their cat has them filled with gratitude. They are grateful to the Corvallis Fire Department for putting out the fire and for saving their cat and to the Oregon State Football team for giving them some clothing and temporary shelter in the aftermath.
As a mom, getting a call from your hysterical teenager standing barefoot in the rain as their apartment burns down is devastating.
Any donations will be greatly appreciated and used to help them get back on their feet with housing and their essential belongings.
