www.oregonlive.com/ducks/2024/01/dan-lanning-the-ducks-arent-going-anywhere-and-im-not-leaving.htmlThe statements Lanning made in the O-live article is what I was expecting to hear from Smith. I at least give Lanning the respect of addressing it as he did here. I just remember Smiths wispy washy comments he gave on Canzanos radio show. It was so totally lame what Jonathan did I don’t think I can ever forgive him. Liked Lannings comment of there is a problem in society of people looking for the next thing, paraphrasing it here

Not to defend Smith, but Lanning’s position is so much more comfortable than Smith’s was. Head coach at one of the weaker Pac teams, caught in the whirlwind of the end of the Pac, left for dead by the side of the road. And we don’t even have to bring up Phil’s money. The U of O job is much nicer.

As I’ve said all along, it wasn’t that Smith left that pissed me off; it was the manner in which he did.

If Smith had told his agent that he would talk to Mich State after the regular season and that he needed to be with "his" team 100% until then, I'd have no heartburn. Edit: if he had done that, there's a good chance OSU would have been 10-2 and he wouldn't have been forced to settle for msu.

Publicity stunt. Makes Lanning look like a saint. Makes the fans feel good, and recruits see a guy who is loyal, and wants be there long term.....whether he will be, or not.

The U of O job is much nicer. Unlimited resources from richest donor in the country, that's one day older than dirt, and desperately wants to win a football national championship before he croaks. They fielded a top 5 recruiting class. All the pieces are there.....Lanning will be a legend if he wins one.....I hate to admit it, but it's a very attractive job.

We would of sold the farm and let every other program out to die to keep him. We were absolutely prepared to pay him among the top in the Pac and absolutely prepared to give him more for assistants He left for a better situation. As I always said, understandable if you are a normal person. We expected him to be extraordinary, fair or not. Smith clearly showed he was just a regular dude looking for the place that benefited him the best.

I wonder if he who shall not be named will view his decision as a "better situation" when he's fired after 3 years

This is an interesting opinion. Where is any reliable documentation he was even a top candidate, let alone offered the Bama job? It has the "Bellotti has taken himself out of the running already", feel to it. Link your name to an opening, get some attention out of it, then turn down an offer that was never there. LOL

LOL Yea, Skrimshander brought up the Bellotti example. Also, think about it.....the duck bandwagon is full of front runners, who only see headlines and really don't know s%#t about s%#t......they eat this stuff up

If he would have had a press conference and said "Hey the plans for the next two years is not for me and here is why....." then it may have come off different. His snake oil salesman mentality is what stinks.

Tinkle is 57 so maybe at 62 he would hang it up or maybe even to 65?

Don't give Coach Tinkle any ideas No one would believe he'd get a "Bama" type offer. Nor would it change the public opinion on the program.
