Twentynine Palms...it is the only city in California with a Nathan's Hot Dog franchise. Strange, eh?

Apparently, after being born in La Mesa (San Diego), I had to endure damn near the first year of my life in 29 Palms. Dad was a marine. The stories my folks would tell were hilarious !

The Marines sent me to the Palms after I completed cold weather training. I got a weekend at Camp Pendleton between 4 weeks of zero degrees and 100 in the shade. In 1979 the Palms was a couple of crappy bars, mom and pop convenience stores, and a couple pawn shops. The closest fast food was in Palm Springs.
