They went to digital streaming, but only after being replaced by cassettes and compact discs. You skipped 8 tracks?

I think the question is: isn't it going to be hard to call yourself "Conference of Champions" when a large number of the championships are held by teams in other conferences...? I expect that will go by the wayside, like "the Pepsi Generation" and "It's the real thing." I'd like to buy the world a Coke, and keep it company. It's the real thing. I'd like to buy the world a home, and furnish it with love.

And don't forget reel-to-reel -- which is still a niche thing...and was the audiophile option for Quad in the day. Much better audio quality than 8-tracks in that realm. And at the risk of totally going OT, over the holiday break I was cleaning out some piles of stuff, and started playing some of my old cassettes, and was surprised by two things. 1.) my deck still worked, and b.) the cassettes copies of some of the albums I recorded 45 years ago still sound great. UDXL II tapes held up - but many of the pre-recorded ones suffered sticky shed syndrome. Ah, still, a walk down musical memory lane...

Cassette tapes are great, I have a drawerful of some I made and they still sound super. My current car had a cassette player but it finally crapped out and the replacement radio/CD I installed didn't have one. Should have sprung for the more expensive model. Busting out a cassette and hearing 90 minutes of Bruce, Southside Johnny, Bonnie Raitt, the Band, the BoDeans, early Eagles, Pure Prairie League, the Doobies, Elton John, Bob Seger, Allmans, Tom Petty, Michael Murphey, Los Lobos, Warren Zevon, Creedence, etc., and various assorted artists on theme cassettes (songs with states in the title, old girlfriends, etc.) is priceless.

The dozen or so "car mix" tapes I compiled for when I was on the road a lot - different music for daytime or staying awake on the road after that late gig (Talking Heads, Blondie, and Television featured prominently on one mix tape) are time machines for me.
