Anyone else notice this isn't football? Why divide into multiple boards if we're going to ignore them? Time to go with one clusterf%#* board?

I for one appreciate it being there. I don't check the wrestling schedule much, and never look at the wrestling board... But because of this announcement I am going to the meet on Friday!

It's not very often that OSU gets to host the type of team like Penn State. They have won 10 out of the last 12 national championships. They are a dynasty that you rarely see in college sports. They are once again #1 in the country...our own wrestling team is not bad...#15 in the country with 9 wrestlers ranked in the top 30 in their weight. This would be like fooball hosting an Alabama of sorts. If you haven't been to a match, I highly recommend this one. Last year we brought in over 7k for the Oklahoma match - it was the biggest crowd at Gill for any sport.

And, it's not like there aren't other "pinned" announcements that have been a regular help to all. The reason they're pinned and in a "header". They've always been a welcome/known addition.

Man beating the Lions would be absolutely huge for our wrestling program.

I am not wrestling expert and not nearly as knowledgeable as those on the Mat Club Threads... but, from what I've seen in the past and from match scores this season, a close/tight score would be huge. Defending NCAA team champ and the last time I scanned an article on the All-Star Exhibitions, they have a monster lineup.
Kerkvliet, ranked No. 1 at 285, took on No. 2 Wyatt Hendrickson of Air Force, TFall 18-2; Brooks, ranked No. 1 at 197, met No. 3 Tanner Sloan of South Dakota State, Major 11-2; Truax, ranked No. 2 at 184, took on No. 1 Parker Keckeisen of Northern Iowa, losing 7-4; Starocci, ranked No. 1 at 174, met No. 3 Mekhi Lewis of Virginia Tech, 11-0 major; Van Ness, ranked No. 2 at 149, met No. 3 Kyle Parco of Arizona State, 5-1 dec.
From the other article I scanned... 125... appears Kaylor would have an advantage over their young kids with no one currently ranked on Intermat 133... Aaron Nagao (PSU) is ranked #4, Gabe at #26 141... Bartlett(PSU) is now #2 vs Belton #25 149... OSU's Singleton at #12 with no PSU kid ranked 157... Haines (PSU) #1 vs no one ranked for OSU 165... Match of the day?? Olguin at #10 vs Mesenbrink (PSU) #12 174... Or... match of the day?? Starocci (PSU) #1 vs Wittlake #7 184... Truax (PSU) #2 vs Munoz #6 Match of the day #3!! 197... Brooks (PSU #1 vs Rademacher #30... Sr vs the Fr... good learning experience 285... Kirkvliet (PSU) #1 vs McDermott #12
Not sure you'll see more higher rated matchups in a dual?! Mat experts... predictions? Any chance for upsets...which? Chance for team win? Seems to be close OSU needs to stay away from the Fall and TFalls at 285, 197, 157, 141, 133. And maybe get a couple at 125, 149, with an upset (or two) at 165, 174, 184??

Been a little bit of everything in their previous matches - Munoz by pin, Truax 11-2 win and Truax SV win. (edit- I had that backwards when I typed it out) Kaylor would be the other favorite. Somehow PSU can't seem to find a stud 125lb guy. Year after year it seems to be the 1 weak link in the line-up. Olguin is a toss-up IMO. I imagine he's worked off the early season rust and good to go. Outside of Munoz, Kaylor, Olguin - I expected it to be a pretty tough day at the office. Starocci is on a 50+ match win streak and 3x national champ. Would be fun if TW could snap that. Aaron Brooks is a 3x national champ. Only 5 wrestlers have been 4x national champs. Also - no surprise, but the transfer portal is alive and well in wrestling of course. Nagao transferred in from Minnesota (was a freshman AA), Truax from CP is a 3x AA I believe. Wittlake came to us from Ok State. McDermott via Rutgers, Belton via ASU. Olguin started his career at Fresno before they dropped the program.

Man beating the Lions would be absolutely huge for our wrestling program. I was good at "getting Penn State to travel all the way to Corvallis is huge." But yeah, I like your statement even better.

Hope we can get a F or score some strong team points in some of those matches. Need to avoid Falls at Belton 141, Crosby/Menke157, Whittlake 174, Rademacher 197 and Boone 285. PSU has absolute hammers at those weights. Of those, I feel like Boone at 285 could pull an upset. Need Whittlake and Belton to keep it close if possible. Feel like a couple falls will happen at 157 and 197. Hoping we seen an upset by Whisenhunt at 133! Has already taken down Latona, previous #4! Great OSU family! All that being said through orange and black glasses, PSU is a juggernaut of a program and keeping a respectable score against them would be huge. Admittedly, super nervous we could get completely shut out, but choosing to believe that Corvallis could bring some magic Friday. Also hoping we see OSU start a women’s wrestling program with Coach Engel leading it ASAP, but that’s a post for another day. GO BEAVS

I thought he wrestled Roman Bravo Young really tough last year at PSU (lost 17-8). For what it's worth, last year's dual was 31-3. Kaylor had a win, but a lot of matches were pretty close. To me it was one of those deals where the elite schools/elite guys did those little things within a match that made a world of difference. Belton lost 5-3, Crosby lost 8-4, Olguin lost 3-2, McKinney lost 3-1, Harvey lost 6-3. The PSU kids don't give up a lot of takedowns and we were so freaking close a number of times and couldn't get it done.

I think Belton 141 / 197 Rademacher instead of Harvey will have same opponent as last time. Unsure on the other weights right now. OSU is pushing for the elite tier, I don’t think we are there yet. Pendleton era has had some great AA’s and amazing upsets, Willits v Carr will forever be my favorite match. Best birthday gift I have had from OSU. That being said, outside on Munoz making a run at a title, I don’t know if we have anyone who can or will push for AA better than 4th this season. Waiting for that first 1-3. Retaining Pendleton and Engel is CRITICAL to getting there. We have missed on some big recruits this year, hoping we see them start to get a couple more highly ranked guys out of HS rather than portal. Of our starters so far, 4 were HS recruits of Pendleton and Engel, 6 were transfers, only 1 starter remains from previous regime. Note, listed two for 157, I know there are not 11 starters. 125 Kaylor, previous staff 133 Whisenhunt Pendleton/Engel 141 Belton ASU transfer 149 Singelton Pendleton/Engel 157 Crosby JUCO Transfer or Menke Pendleton/Engel 165 Olguin Fresno Transfer 175 Whittlake OSU Transfer 184 Munoz ASU Transfer 197 Rademacher Pendleton/Engel 285 Boone Rutgers?
