The new rules are segregating the schools by the amount of money they can spend. Even the pros have salary caps! There is no semblance of equality of the scheduling that is allowed in many conferences. The total NIL money being paid by each team should have a cap limit, low enough that that most Div I teams could reach that level. All Conference schedules should have similar # of conference games & non-conference games.
This year has shown what a farce the whole system has become. Bowl games look like spring practice scrimmages with so many starters not playing.
The PAC has been playing 11 game seasons, 8 in conference, 3 out-of- conference plus a bye week. The season is half at home and half on the road. Some leagues play 7 or 6 conference games and all the non- conference games are home games. The national polls ignore strength of schedule to a large degree. FSU complained about not being in the final four... yet the best team they played was Louisville. The ACC was not very strong this year.
The NIKE semi-pro team in Eugene has HUGE advantage over most teams. Every player thinks they will get a shoe contract from NIKE.... and they essentially do.
A BIG reason that College Football is so popular is that the team are NOT Professionals.... just student athletes getting an athletic scholarship to enable them to play football while they attend college. Many of the players would never play in the pros. The ones that go on to the pros become local heroes. The NCAA put scholarship limitations to keep a level playing field between all schools. The NIL payments, Transfer Portal, and opting out of Bowl Games is disgusting to most fans.

Agree. I'd like to limit the cancer to the 12 top teams. Let the others, including us, compete for a legitimate National Championship. The top 12 can compete in an invitational tournament sponsored by Fox and ESPN each year.

College football is about traditions, and rivalries. It's also about winning. We are in the position of left out, so naturally we feel bitter, and hope the whole thing crumbles under its own weight.
I've talked to a few duck fans about all of this to get a perspective from someone who has a seat at the table. From my anecdotal findings, the old school duck fans hate what is happening. They appreciate the traditions, and rivalries, and where they came from. The average band wagon fan, which there are LOTS of, couldn't care less about any of the history. They only want to be associated with a "big time" winning program. It's exciting.
I think there are enough people (and more all the time) who will pump the money in to keep the machine rolling towards an NFL type model. My only question is, where will that leave us? My hope is we can have a completely separate league. I would like to see limited ability for big money college ball to poach our players. I just don't see how that will be possible. The cat is out of the bag.....and now most kids are literally playing for a bag. I think the reality is all the have nots will just be farm teams for the haves. I will still follow my Beavs, but if that is truly the model, I will not be nearly as interested in college football.

Nike now pays recruits just to come visit Eugene. That's right. Once there, they can get an appraisal and hopefully, a true market value offer.
Phil Knight is 86 y/o and desperate.

Please post factual info that substantiated. Nike does NOT pay recruits to visit. I totally understand the Nike hate, but that organization is one of the most sophisticated in the world in terms of legalities. Nike would never jeopardize their relationship with any school (since they have them with many) by blatantly breaking such a simple rule and depending on the discretion of an 18 y/o to keep it on the low down. Getting an "appraisal/market value" offer... isn't paying. Nor a promise to pay. But, please post any verification of your claims.

So, you think they walk away without a substantial amount of "bling"? Shoes, shirts, etc - as a "thank you" for coming . Technically, even a "gift" is to be declared on your taxes, at retail price. The "exclusion" for gifts in 2023 was $17,000. But, with the price of garbage Nike shoes and apparel, who knows?

Every school gives out "bling" to official visits. It is allowed.

Does that shock anybody here in the House that Oregon is paying recruits to visit?
Of course it doesn't. Phil is 86, this is it.
george is a duck apologist. Why? You're not changing anybody's mind here.

You're not changing anybody's mind here. Again... other than feeding off duck hate do you have any factual evidence? is everyone playing fair? Probably not. Are schools like OSU at a disadvantage? What's new. But, again please enlighten all of us with factual info vs being on the soapbox of a meaningless, long since "old protest". Most here enjoy gaining info based real facts. So? Also, stop with the immature labeling of inane claims of duck trolls & apologists just because you post fabrications you can not back up. I mean with the 1000's of HS visitors you'd think at least one high level violation on gifts would pop up. Especially if one visitor felt slighted. So... again, evidence?
