I’ve never been a fan of the franchise, but they have become so irrelevant over the past 15 years that I don’t care much either way. I’m just glad that K H-J should be available after next weekend to officially join our staff and hit the recruiting trail. There have got to be a number of talented kids still left out there between the portal and even undecided high school kids to possibly make a late run at. I’m excited to have our new DC come onboard. I grew up a SAN DIEGO Charger fan. You can imagine my disdain for the freakin’ Raiders. San Diego Charger fan is IMPORTANT. The lalaland chargers are dead to me. PSST--The Chargers started as the Los Angeles Chargers in 1960. True story.

I watched some GREAT AFL players at Balboa Stadium as a young’n. 🙂

As an aside we should probably all get use to, it is just Keith Heyward now... he dropped a the hyphened Johnson a long time ago. That’s good, because Hyphened Johnson is the name of my band. Wouldn’t want any confusion. Your Johnson is hyphenated?! That’s got to hurt.

The Rams rule. The spanos family members are the spawn of satan.

Can we please stop talking about his "johnson"! See I was trying to be all highbrow and subtle but if we are just gonna make Johnson jokes for the rest of the day I AM IN. Thats what she said.

I was in SD last week and went to a sportsbar on Sunday for lunch and football. There were a total of 3 guys in Chargers jerseys and about 75 people in all other teams jerseys. Lots of Niners & Bears fans actually. But then again, Easton Stick vs Jarrett Stidham in Week 17 isn't exactly a big draw right now.

Sadly - the chargers will remain s%#tty for the duration of Spanos' ownership. He is too cheap to pay for a quality coach. Thier next will be an inexpensive retread of some variety - or another "Young Gun"(also cheap) who will fail spectacularly. This is my "Stone Cold Lock" bet of the year.

Spanos should sell and the new owner should move the team back to San Diego or maybe even someplace like San Antonio or Columbus where a real fanbase would be waiting.

Funny the Chargers were known for many things in the early days of the AFL... prolific offenses and stifling defenses with lots of takeaways. Its is a bit ironic with all the great QBs their only title came with Tobin Rote and Hadl as the backup. And, a side note they had drafted Terry Baker, 12th Rd, with the 90th pick in the AFL draft. The Rams of course made him the #1 pick.
But, it was their mandatory anabolic steroid program that is never mentioned. Their anabolic steroid usage program was the first such in professional football. Sid Gillman and strength coach Alvin Roy made daily doses of Dianabol compulsory for a five-week period during training camp. The training camp was out in the middle of no where, about 70 miles from San Diego in a desert setting. The field was sawdust on top of sandy/rocky soil. The book called it "Rough Acres Ranch". Players eventually became aware of potential side effects, and the program was relaxed to a voluntary one.
I also had not known that Al Davis was a key employee and chief negotiator when it came to stealing away NFL talent. He left to take the Raider coach/GM job for the '63 season.

I can't believe you guys talk about the early 60's Chargers without mentioning running back Paul Lowe from OSU. Shame on you guys! Paul Lowe Wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_LoweLegacy: "In 1970, the Pro Football Hall of Fame named Lowe as a halfback on the All-Time All-AFL Team. In 1979, the Chargers inducted him into the Chargers Hall of Fame. Lowe remains in San Diego and supports his team as a season ticket holder."

Unlike most of the Chargers, Lowe got his Super Bowl ring on the Chiefs roster in Super Bowl IV, the last pre-merger Super Bowl.
