This is much more relevant than Reggie Bush's gonads. Would a ballot measure pass in Oregon to raise the gas tax if it said the first priority with the dollars raised is to make I-5 three lanes in each direction from exit 188 (Hwy 58) to Kuebler Blvd, second priority is a four-lane highway from Grand Ronde to Otis Junction and third priority is additional passing lanes on Hwy's 22, 26, 126, 58, 38, and 140? Don't forget 99W between Rickreal and Corvallis when you add those passing lanes. You get stuck behind somebody driving slow, or a truck, or farm equipment, on that stretch and passing is impossible because there is so much traffic.

Hard to comment on this without being political, so let me just say this. In 1965/66, when Hwy 217 was being built - people were hopping mad. "It would never pay for itself", "waste of money", etc. Now look at it. One of the busiest highways in the state. My frustration is monies paid in gas taxes, etc, not going to what it actually should go for. Improved roads, widening roads as needed, etc. A poster on here in a different thread, who has worked for the state, commented on how monies that are designated for certain things, get spirited to other areas with impunity.
Try driving Hwy 22 between Bend and Salem at night. Hard enough with oncoming headlights, doubly hard when the crews didn't get around to repainting the fog line, center stripes, etc - sigh.
