Kerry Eggers in the Portland TribuneWhile it doesn't surprise me that people are speculating on this, I will be mildly surprised if Collins is open to this transition. I thought the whole reason he came here was to play QB, and he doesn't strike me (from what I've seen on TV and read - obviously I don't know the kid) as someone who is going say "you know what? You're right, I can't play QB at this level." I have to think that the only way he'd sign off on that is if he exhausts all other possibilities of schools to transfer to. Maybe I'm wrong, and he's matured beyond what I've seen on film. The play Collins made that has had the biggest impression on me wasn't the leap over the kid in the Weber St. game, or the perfect pass he threw to Jarmon at Michigan. It was in the last open scrimmage of fall camp, when he somersaulted into the end zone for no reason other than to say "look at me!" He was in a no-contact jersey, the D had clearly conceded the end zone to him, and he flips shoulder first into the ground from three or four yards out. I was terrified he was going to separate his shoulder for nothing. I hope he does warm up to this idea, because I think he could be a huge weapon on fly sweeps, screen passes, and even on wildcat options. Remember the one season we dabbled with Quizz back there in the wildcat? He ripped off like a 50 yard run vs. Stanford and even threw a few TDs if I remember correctly. Not that Collins is anywhere near the player Quizz is (yet), but some of that versatility is there.

I think he would be amazing. And WR attitude really matches him I think.

Quizz comaprison? REALLY??? Do you remember his TRUE frosh season/career? Seth is HS level compared to what Quizz was/is... as a player and a person!!
Who knows what Seth's capable of... extremely athletic guys are a dime a dozen in the D1 realm... much rarer to find the combo of extreme athleticism AND a head on their shoulders. When and IF Seth shows a mentality of a Quizz, then we can talk about the effect he'll have on our program.

Quizz and James were driving forces - leaders on and off the field demonstrated by work ethic, team building and on field performance, so were Cooks and Stroughter -
I haven't seen this type of leadership and drive from Collins - flashes of talent.

I'm pretty confused where everyone got the idea that I thought Collins was anywhere near the emotional leader four of the best we've had in the past twenty years are. I said he was on par athletically, and could be a weapon on the field similar to those guys if he was willing to switch positions. He's definitely more Robert Prescott than Quizz, but I was merely talking about how effective he could be out of a wildcat formation. He's more Robert Prescott than the four guys you brought up in that aspect.

You brought up players who were PLAYERS... effective means a lot more than running wildcat every so often... you really can't mention Collins in the same breath as any of those players as he has done ZERO compared to them... athletically or as a leader of our program.

If I've followed this and your other 37 related posts correctly, it sounds like you don't care for Collins. You've got some Cal Ripken-esque stamina. lol

George... I'm sure, from reading your postings here, you understand the difference between "liking as a person" vs "liking as the player he's represented himself as up to this point".
Personally, I just don't see him as a "special/build a program around" type. Is there potential? Sure. But, at this point his demeanor/attitude shown publicly on several occasions far outweighs his physical talents.
Obviously he's young and immature in many ways. Neither are usually life long conditions. Lol
Opinions are based on experience, and I've seen this road traveled all too often... HS, college, pro.
Seth the person, never met him and have no personal animosity. Seth the OSU QB, had a ton of growing to do mentally before I'd see him as a valuable contributor at any position.
How that makes some sense?

I'd like to see Seth on the other side. I'd like to see him at FS. I think we'll have better WRs coming in. Put on 20lbs and play free or a physical CB.

As long as he's not a QB, I really don't care where CGA places him. WR, RB, or DB......
