RPI this early in the college basketball season is good for a few yucks and perhaps little else. But - as of Dec.16, there is a striking divergence re: Conference RPI Men's BB vs. WBB, regarding the PAC and the MWC.
Men's basketball: MWC actually ranks (overall) ahead of the PAC-12. MWC = 6th in RPI as a conference, and PAC-12 = 7th.
Women's basketball: PAC 12 is #1 in RPI as a conference...MWC is 17th. Interesting to me (and me alone?).

The P5 schools can fund non-revenue sports at a much higher level than the G5 schools. It wouldn't surprise me if the highest paid MWC WBB coach earns half what the lowest paid Pac coach. Same for assistance, recruiting budget, etc ...

Rueck is like the fourth-highest paid wbb coach in the Pac-12. I'll admit I've had doubts about him as far as his basketball philosophy goes but his overall success is undeniable. And I would like to see how this team winds up doing because I think it has some pretty good potential.

We can start there. Then there is men's basketball, yep they lose money too despite paying the coach 3x's what Rueck makes.

And MBB still makes money, although it still should make more.

No one in their right mind makes a decision as important as the future membership of their conference based on women's basketball. Or baseball either, as much as we might like it at OSU. The decision is based on football. Period.

That is the 2020 data, y'know, COVID-19 3/4 of the regular season and all postseason (where the real money is made) lost kinda deal? Oregon State earned more than six time the revenue in 2022 with no appreciable increase in expenses. Baseball breaks even on the books (i.e. earns a real-life profit but cannot claim that without endangering its funding) almost every single year, absent a COVID-19 kinda deal.
