Dam Nation: You have the green light, take the shot /photo/1 Looking at our competition for him, that would be a great get. Also, while a lot of programs could get two guys to up the level of competition in the QB room, this leads me to think that we most likely don’t have a commitment from any others who are in the portal yet. I was hoping that the big commitment that was talked about yesterday was a QB who might be revealed today.

USC has a 5 star guy there now and I would think that he would not want to sit another year behind Beck at Georgia. I am surprised that UCLA is not on that list. He could probably start there and he is from CA. All that said, I hope we do land him, but be prepared for a 1 year stop in Corvallis.... I guess that is what we need to prepare for anyway these days.

That’s probably going to change given the recent court ruling on 2nd transfers

Who do transfer rules even protect? Is there schools that don't want people to transfer? It's basically only for fans so they don't have to deal with players moving constantly?

Of course schools don't want kids transferring - why would they want to coach a kid up, train him and a group of kids in a system only to have them leave? It's continuity and stability that grows the the unit and the whole team up. Even pro sports have contracts over years so they can keep guys in the fold.

Players will realize the grass isn't always greener.....and they can succeed as noted above...with a team that stays together...vs being a hired gun or hitman..

No but they were happy to get Avery Roberts, Rawls, Chatfield..ect. just saying idk why the who the NCAA is protecting with the rules. Schools get a double edged sword, athletes get more power in their lives, fans get...boned mostly.

I think Rawls was a juco transfer. Solid point. How about Fenwick, Harrison or Lindsey instead. Yup. We used to have an advantage of guys getting to enroll and take classes so they wouldn’t have to sit out and it was really good to us. Now they can transfer whenever wherever they want and we don’t have the same advantage. That aside I still think we will still do well in the portal. This seems to be a good recruiting staff thus far.

Who do transfer rules even protect? Is there schools that don't want people to transfer? It's basically only for fans so they don't have to deal with players moving constantly? Originally, transfer rules were there to protect "lower" level schools. You could see that because FBS kids could always transfer to FCS schools without penalty, so going "down" a level brought not penalty, but staying at the same level or leveling up cost you a year. I don't think it was ever clearly verbally stated, but I think the REAL main reason for the rule was to keep lower level teams from being "farm" clubs for higher level teams. And I mean that in every sense - they didn't want the Indianas and Illinois of the world to be developing players so that they could just up and transfer to Ohio State or Michigan as seniors. That's clearly what we are turning into now. Lower tiered schools get their studs taken by higher tiered schools, and kids who don't make it on higher tiered schools will drop down to lower tiered schools. The division between "haves" and the "have nots" gets a booster shot.
