More of a philosophical question here. What does it mean for teams to use the portal and with the flood gates being wide open what dos it mean for athletes? To me our best move is to sell the fit in the program and playing time over anything else (wow that sounds familiar). Top players are going to get paid through NIL, although values seem to be quite over reported, but there is so many talented players in the transfer portal now (about 1400) that its more or less a secondary recruiting pool but the players know a bit more.
What do you guys think it means?

I think it’ll mean new opportunity to a few hundred of those players in the portal and potentially disappointment and chaos for a larger portion of the transfers (unless they’re transferring from Colorado).
Thing is, wait til the dominoes start rolling after bowls happen. There will likely be a round of coaching changes affecting the portal, on top of kids who intend to announce after bowl games. 1400 could be just the beginning.

Once you accept the reality of it...it kinda becomes an extension of following recruiting except your dealing with established players in most cases.
I enjoy it tbh...not so much losing out stud players of course..they should all stay

It means (along with NIL) that college football is no longer an amateur sport, it is a professional sports league now. There is no reason to pretend otherwise anymore.
How that evolves in the coming years will determine what kind of system we settle into. The numbers that are being thrown around are absurd and seemingly unsustainable, but nothing really shocks me anymore. If there is limited (or no) oversight based on the court decisions, then I think you see a breakout from 'schools' that want to participate in this and schools that will continue on with a system similar to the one we had before. Asking alumni to cough up every year to handle the 'cap' will get old fast.
