Not that I enjoy seeing OSU players in the portal but one aspect has been interesting IMO and that's how the players are being rated by 247 Sports. Aidan Chiles, Jermod McCoy and Easton Mascarenas-Arnold are all rated as four star players So DJU was dropped to four from his five star rating out of high school. I was a little surprised that Jack Velling was not rated a 4. He's a high 3. Maybe just not enough catches. I'm leaning toward these ratings as evidence that the Beavers not only have been strong at player development but it is being recognized.

Ya the NIL and the way the portal kind of sucks for developmental programs like ours compared to the blue bloods. It was always fun to watch the guys develop and breakout over the years. Now when that happens they leave for a blue blood to patch a hole from a player leaving early or poor development and talent evaluation. This is especially the case with QBs as we’ve seen every year with yucks in what seems like forever.

I remember former BYU coach Lavelle Edwards' comment that coaching college was kind of like farming. You start by laying the groundwork, doing the work needed to bring things along, and then enjoying the benefits of all your hard work as you watch the players develop. I think its been a similar experience for fans. We follow Mike Hass from being a forgotten walkon to a great player. We watch Simonton progress from being a nobody to being a very highly regarded Pac-10 back. Then, when they leave a new group develops. Rinse and repeat. This will all be lost thanks to NIL as it is currently used. This is no different than professional sports after free agency came into use.

I've been wondering, since this is professional sports already, how long before we see soccer style transfer fees paid by schools who get a transfer to the school who loses that transfer. If were a development school, at least we should benefit from it, right?
