Point taken but again, why won't they just come out and say that's their plan? They keep talking about options, plural. It also gives them two years before they have to expand to eight teams. If they can do so without spending a lot of money in the process it makes more sense to keep it there and wait on upheaval with other conferences that might provide a better financial situation. And just because some fans have declared that OSU and WSU will never be asked to join the Big 12 or other power conference doesn't mean that administrators like Chun necessarily believe it's off the table for the future. Also, Chun mentioned how the current situation of college football is in constant flux: "The reality is that realignment is not done. President Shulz has been quite clear, we are a power five school, our performance indicates that we are a power five school, we're going to do our best to continue to compete at that level and that's really our goal going forward." I get your thinking that if you wish hard enough, a power conference invite will appear. The problem is that it won’t. Another absolute statement by a fan. Yeah, you are PROBABLY right. For now. Maybe. LOL.

LOL... it is a bit more complicated that "just make it happen". There are 12 other universities involved. There is a current media deal to navigate that may not want to add $$ for two more teams. OR, may not want to add enough for the other (12) or for OSU/WSU to want. If I'm the media partner I love the idea of the scheduling alliance... get some P5 games without paying a premium fee to the conference. Plus I can then see how the numbers look after year 1 to see IF or how much to make a new/update a contract offer. It certainly could be the number 1 option simply based on a media deal... even if it is not what is truly wanted by OSU/WSU. It could be well, down the list in terms of wait and see.
But my point stands you made a personal interpretation/conclusion that was not stated by Chun. That's all. As in not the No. 1 plan...as far as how I interpret Chun's comments, he obviously did not state that any one plan was the No. 1 plan. But I can come to a certain conclusion based on what he says. I would be interested in what you conclude from this quote by Chun (for example): "The reality is that realignment is not done. President Shulz has been quite clear, we are a power five school, our performance indicates that we are a power five school, we're going to do our best to continue to compete at that level and that's really our goal going forward." Chun is on the P5 "committee" which requires a unanimous vote to change anything as of now. So, a reverse merger under the Pac12 flag would still mean they/OSU are P5 unless the NCAA drastically changes their constitutional regs. So... "realignment is not done"... could it mean a merger? Sure And... "we are a power 5 school"... they are, like OSU for now and even after alliance, independence, or reverse merger unless as stated above the NCAA abruptly changes their tune/voting process as OSU/WSU has already received their blessing to have the two year grace period, without any mention or stipulation of stripping P5 status.

Yes, it will still be P5, which is great for receiving $$$. But, there’s no auto bids invloved anymore, so we are still going to need to merge or rebuild in 2 years.

Idk why there even is numbers. It's like when sequels always had the number. Just make it the PAC and you never have to change it for composition or look like you can't count. The numbers are there because someone put them there to begin with, and changing a brand, even in a simple manner, can mess things up for a while. It should have been done originally. I knew a guy who had a retail store for years and decided to move to the next space when the opportunity came up. He literally had a 5-6 inch wall between the old and new spaces. He had at least 50% more floor space and more inventory than that added. He faced the same street (there was a big shared parking lot between him and the street, so it wasn’t like he was out of view), moved his big sign (not a small sign, maybe 20’ across) about 20-25 feet, was literally closed for maybe 1 day to move the old inventory next door to add to the new inventory he had already merchandised, and even years later he was still getting customers coming in saying they were so sad when he went out of business and they’re glad to see him open up again. You don’t mess with the brand.

You need to understand that a new Pac Whatever can still remain a P5 Conference. Going to an existing P4 conference does not have to be a part of any plan.

I'm not hanging my hat on it no matter what new version of the Pac comes to be.
