Early 1st rd action - Kaylor win via TF, #9 seed Whisenhunt win via pin - has UNC 8 seed next, Belton win 11-3, Singleton lost. Crosby and Olguin up next.
others of note - Rowley unseeded, at 184 for Purdue. Lamer boys both early winners for Cal Poly

Kaylor, Whisenhunt, Olguin, Wittlake and Munoz into the quarters. Gabe avenged an earlier loss to UNC kid. Rademacher with a nice 1st round upset win.
The other 5 are all still alive on the back side.

Just some thoughts.....Good start but tough ending to the first day of Vegas. Trey getting caught in a whip over deep on a shot, then losing in 4 OT while also in on a good shot is a tough one to watch. Knowing Trey, in the end, this is fuel for the fire and will do him good moving forward. Same thing happened last year with the Pinto loss. Trey will learn from this and become better for it.
Belton had a couple of good wins, his losses were to two tough kids Ech and Cornella
Isaiah had a nice tech fall - you can tell he isn't quite there yet, but that's okay - he needs to peak at the right time. Kid has athleticism.
One thing I love about Wittlake is that even when he is losing a match, which he was several times, he keeps the pressure on...moving forward ... stalking guys...He wore down the UVU kid and Kemp. Good stuff to see.
Really impressed with Nash coming back through. He beat some tough kids. Kinner is a tough kid and Nash got the last takedown to win. He has the kid beat him in round 1 today. With Nash it seems round 1 isn't very good, but after that he goes on a tear. Love to watch him go after it.
Whisenhunt was right there with Orrine...Gabe gets a lot of first takedowns against really good wrestlers.
Olguin getting caught in the cradle was a bummer, but I think he will be tough on the backside. Love to watch Matty battle... very heavy hips on that kid.
Boone is looking very good! Pinning Nevils and beating Trephan are great wins. Excited to see him today.
Not a bad day for Rademacher - He is holding his own as a true freshman. If you watch what Hidlay has done to everyone this season, Justin battled him pretty hard. He has a great future ahead of him.
Bk was very close to being in the semis. He has Tanner from SDSU then possibly Provo or Volk - both he has beaten. These matches will be close ones I imagine.
Overall not a bad day, sitting in 6th. A lot of big matches still to be wrestled today. Looking forward to it.... as a team we keep moving forward.

My 8 year old was asking for a do-over when he saw Trey get pinned. That sucked to see, but I'm sure he will use it to fuel the fire.

Team finishes 5th with 98.5 points. Not too shabby. Trey wrestles up to his seed we are probably 4th.
