20 assists and 3 assists to 3 turnovers.
Those are Donovyn's stats through the first 5 games of her college career. Granted the competition isn't the toughest but I can't remember any Beaver matching those numbers let alone a freshman. I certainly could be wrong about that and if so please correct me.

believeinthebeavs may have meant 3 steals to 3 To's. 3 TO's is actually very impressive for a freshman even considering the very weak overall schedule so far. Because of the quality of teams we've played, I'm not sure what we have learned yet about this team. There are a couple things I think we have learned. First, it appears that SR has faith that Dono can play D, and handle the ball well enough to get a lot of playing time during the non-conference schedule. She is averaging the 2nd most minutes on the team and is the chief player bringing the ball up the court. Dono is a solid ball handler with good passing skills and works hard on D. What she is not at this point, is a PG that you can expect to see a lot of offense from. We saw this last season with Noelle and Bendu. Bendu could drive to the hoop, etc. but she couldn't finish well, and wasn't a good shooter. Noelle could hit the three when open, but didn't possess a lot of other offensive skills. Over the course of her career, I expect Dono will become more of an offensive threat, but I don't expect much this season. It will be interesting to see how well she holds up as the competition picks up. I think she will do well, but there will likely be a few bumps in the road. These next six games will be tougher than the first five non-conference games, so these games will show us a lot on who will get PT once Pac-12 season arrives. I expect Dono will continue to be the starter and log a lot of minutes.

That's pretty good, especially for Beaver guards.

She can drive all the way to the hoop or pull up for a flooter but I haven't seen that yet. So far Rueck has mainly used her just to bring the ball up. She does run some plays but just as often passes off to Reagan at the top of the key or Talia to run the plays.

Very impressive stats for any player. True that when OSU gets into PAC-12 play, I'd be surprised if we don't see these stats change. What I feel very good about is we have 3 players who are all getting time at the PG position and playing well. I even like it when TvO gets some of the reps at PG. OSU is in much better shape at PG then we have been since Aleah was our PG. The entire bench is much deeper than it has been for years. I know our competition has been weak to date, but the build is coming and will be very interesting to see how the minutes will be distributed in the game vs UO.

I too watched her a lot in HS, my memories are mostly of her defense and steals, hanging out at mid-court, waiting to pounce. She has done some of this for us, you see her reach for balls and disrupt. The first vid is that (it's the 2nd one down at Hudl) , the second is her overall story. I'm still looking for vids of her shooting, I realize it isn't highlighted much. Kennedie was similarly annoying to opposing guards in HS. www.hudl.com/profile/14083646/Donovyn-Hunter

I hesitate, but what the heck: best freshman point guard start in OSU WBB history? Defense, floor general, passing, speed...mmmhmmm.

I hesitate, but what the heck: best freshman point guard start in OSU WBB history? Defense, floor general, passing, speed...mmmhmmm. Yeah... and versus??? Yep nobody... NC SOS of I'm guess 340 "ish". I guess I wait to anoint anyone's stats as great until Pac12 play. In brief watches I'm not sure any of our frosh get many minutes, other than mop up time, for the top 6+ teams in the Pac12. I think I saw our current RPI is last in the Pac12. Stuff changes very fast during the preseason to conferences play but, in not wanting to guess... I looked... NC SOS as of now: Furd 5 / 7-0 SC 15 / 6-0 Col 36 / 7-1 UO 66 / 4-1 UCLA 73 / 6-0 Cal 93 / 6-1 ASU 103 / 6-2 WSU 129 / 8-1 AZ 130 / 6-1 UT 159 / 4-1 UW 276 / 7-0 OSU 348 / 5-0 Glad we're 5-0, be a bit worrisome if not. But, also not sure how you can glean much from who we've played. We out size almost every opponent, and they very few have players that would make our roster. Outscoring Weber by only 5 points over the last 3 qtrs is also not a great sign, subbing regularly or not. As far as PG "history"... really? After 5 games! How about we look at the season vs 5 games vs no one? When she matches Syd's Frosh year we have a player of comparison. As a true Frosh Syd played in 35 games/started 35 games! Played 34 min/game... 14.3/3.3/4.0 shooting 44.7/42.4/79.5%... yep 3.1 to's per game, or 109 in 1198 minutes of play, 1 every 11 min... for a true frosh. Not to mention the LIST of awards as a Frosh... Let's hope our Frosh can combine to be that productive once Pac12 play begins.

Even if Dono’s freshman season is 80% of Sydney’s she’ll be exceptional. I certainly like everything I’m seeing from her so far.

Syd is way too young for people to have already forgotten how well she played from the beginning of her career. Dono is a good player, has a chance to be a great player. As others have previously stated, we've played nobody, it's 5 games in and even with that, not really seeing signs of touching Syd's offensive production.

To be consistent with rgeorge’s use of NET (though I don’t find it quite accurate at this point in the season), not sure I’d call No. 12 Villanova a nobody. It was also Hunter’s worse game of the season. Hunter is more of a game manager style PG than the Goodman, Wiese, Slocum types IMO. Difficult to compare, but with the current roster I think a pass first, defense first PG is a solid fit.

And RPI thinks that Purdue Fort Wayne is the 21st best team in the Country. Garbage in garbage out. Massey says OSU's SOS is 185, which I think is a little low, but way more accurate than RPI's. "We out size almost every opponent". Hmm, I seem to remember someone saying that height has nothing to do with basketball. I'll have to try to remember who said that. Comparing Syd and our current frosh is, at best, apples and oranges. Syd was a shooter who made fun of her large number of TO's. Our frosh are pass/defense oriented players. The Pac-12 is easily the best conference in the country and how our frosh will handle it will be fun to watch.

It seems you take things out of context try to make meaningless points. As far as your trying to qualify who you can and can't compare. A PG contribution does vary, my points... SYD is the best Frosh PG EVER... up to this point. And, 5 games isn't any sort of sample size to say squat.
