While Smith said appreciative things about how the hiring process was never a distraction, I am left to wonder. And those close games with bonehead calls makes one wonder. He also had a wonderful opportunity when asked in the opening about did he already possess a green tie or had to go buy one to talk about in-state rivalries and how he wouldn't be caught dead owning something green until 3 days ago....... Well, that is about the last time I will pay attention to anything related to CGM (Coach Got Milk), x9er, CJS, whatever we end up dubbing him. End of an era, but that means its also the beginning of a new one. Go Beavers!

New a few minutes ago from The Register Guard Michigan State had enough competition from Power Five college football teams also hoping to hire Jonathan Smith that it added a seventh year to his contract, helping a shaken program land the former Oregon State coach. 7.25 million to boot

I thought Smith was articulate, well-spoken, compelling, thoughtful, excited, and sincere. grade: A The midnight green is a good color and he looked sharp wearing it. I don't hold anything against him. He made the best choice he could.

One thing for certain is he has a rebuild on his hands.
All the QBs have left. Like. ALL of them. All the WRs have left. Hiring Smith does not appear to be that exciting for the players.
and lets be honest, I can only LOL at Leavitt's reason for transfer.

Have some more kool-aid. Are you 14 years old? [meant for the poster calling himself newduke] So, because I remain supportive and positive about coach Smith, I'm 14? Are you 12 years old?

god, what a bunch of sore losers, crybabies and whiners... Yeah, why would any of us be at all unhappy when our athletic program has been hung out to dry by networks and 10 of our fellow members of a 100+ year old conference? Why would we question a deity who sold us the loyalty and all hail OSU drivel that he pitched all season he was pursuing another job clear back in the bye week? Or that we played like crap after that bye week, had some of the stupidest decisions made that I believe cost us the Arizona game and killed a shot at beating the Huskies on the last drive? Or, the fact that we looked strangely flat last week when the rumors were swirling? Or that his players were shocked at the contrast between his words to them and his actions. Silly us. When he’s talking honesty and loyalty in his presser, it just sounds like someone on Capitol Hill. It rings hollow. He ain’t who we thought he was, period. I don’t blame him for seeking something else, but his timing sucked, his deception and poor management of our team in the process were more than disappointing. Hope he finds that nirvana he seeks. There is not a fan base above the everyone-gets-ribbon level who wouldn’t generally feel this way if they were in our shoes.

I'm old enough to know when someone truly is, "articulate, well-spoken, compelling, and thoughtful." I doubt you'd find any OSU football fanatics (older than 14) who ever thought that about Jonathan Smith on camera or on mic. Maybe he appears that way compared to the guy who got caugh giving himself a hand job while talking to a famous self proclaimed victim of sex abuse?
