His statements were just to pacify us until it could be official.
But if you blame him, you're a fool. He did what he had to do. No way to lock up Smith if he was set on leaving, which is pretty clear now in hindsight. I'm sure Barnes tried. I'm sure he doesn't want to have to navigate finding a new coach while figuring out the state of the conference.

And all 100+ players, coaches and support staff pinky-swore not to tell any of their friends, wives or their parents, or post something on Twitter or Insta or some other social media platform ... More than 100 people couldn't keep news like that under their hats for 20 minutes, much less two full days. |

Also his family and maybe some of the coaches. |

Rediclous …blaming Scott Barnes for the mess osu is in is misguided. He didn’t blow the league up. He can’t match MSU financially. Pat Casey has no athletic director experience,and wouldn’t want the job ever.

Barnes did a really good job with the Bray hire. Sounds like the plan is sound for next year atleast on the football side of things. Good momentum right now. |
