Something about Lake that intrigues me so far, 11 assists, 6 steals, a bunch of drawn charges, and just 1 turnover. If he could hit 40% from beyond the 3 point line I'd probably never take him out of the game.

We need better guard play beyond Pope. Until we get that, we're going nowhere.

The thing is if you’re gonna be bad, be bad with your freshman and sophomore’s……getting blown out with Jrs and Srs on the floor is absolutely silly. I think at some point the older guys that aren’t contributing will see their minutes vanish and Lake/Craig/Ndong/Marrs will consume those minutes. If the guards don’t make shots, the inside guys won’t score either.

If Rochelin doesn’t start contributing over next few games, it will be time to get him out of rotation. I know he got a late start cuz of the concussion and was hurt most of last year, and WT likes his size with Pope, Wright, Lake and Craig being relatively small, but something has to give. Wonder if he’s not still having residual problems from the concussion. I mean he wasn’t very good last year, but not this bad.

If he starts practicing better over the course of the season, then he can be put back in.

So I’m pretty new here, but I have read many things that you have written and I agree with most everything you say. What do you think the obsession behind constantly playing three guards at a time is? If we can’t shoot, shouldn’t we run an up-and-down style of offense using 10 to 12 guys? Seems like WT is stubborn…… with the college football coach leaving that pretty much puts all of Oregon State athletics in a more uncertain position than they were three days ago I think we’re gonna see a very selfish brand of self-promoting basketball the rest of the year so that everyone can try to find a new home

I think once Michael Rataj is back into game shape we'll be back to a two guard lineup more often than not. Been thinking that since game 2.
I think 3 guards has been out of necessity.

We would get killed, if we ran tempo, which is why we do not play that style. Oregon State's style right now is to beat them offensively and defensively in half court, switching defenses often to keep the other offense off-balance.

The one really bright spot that I can say I have seen out of this beaver team is there a free-throw shooting! I think they need to figure out a way to get to the Line as much as possible, and the only way to do that is dribble drive penetration

Free throw shooting is a big bright spot. Not enough to offset awful shooting from pretty much everywhere so far, though.

I'd think the first 4 get the start at their specific spots, not sure if Dexter or Christian gets the start, they would both get a lot of minutes.

So you are thinking, KC Tyler, Mike, pope, Dexter? Or Christian instead of Dexter? I agree with DASB that necessity has dictated the starting lineup. Outside of Bilodeau, not much in the way of consistency at forward position. Ndong and Mars have shown flashes (more so the former) that they can be contributors in the future, but not yet ready for prime time. Also, Akanno is a big guard (listed at 6-5 or 6-6), so not running three 6-2 guys out there. Rataj being back will certainly help and seems a strong candidate to be starting soon. Hopefully it is just that he is getting into playing shape, but he hasn’t looked very good guarding on perimeter/in space. I don’t remember that being a big issue last year, so certainly could improve as leg does. I’ve been disappointed with Stevens thus far, who would give Beavers a bigger wing. I had little expectations for him going into last year, but thought he showed some glimpses. This year other than against Linfield, he’s barely played and had no impact. Anyone know if he’s battling injury or has he just been passed over in rotation? If he could be even a consistent 3 and 3 or 4 and 4 guy, that would really help this team.
