Lost in all our court and legal drama was the fact the Boise St. AD fired Avelos a week ago "mid-season".
The Broncos responded with a dominating performance at Utah St, earned bowl eligibility and kept a conference championship game possibility alive. Now I"m really curious what was going on behind the scenes with Avelos. From afar I thought he seemed like a pretty likeable guy and players type coach. The players response after his firing suggests otherwise.

I'm curious how BSU's AD looks like a genius for this one - they didn't fire Avalos after an embarrassing loss and the team rebounded the following week. He was fired following Boise State blowing out New Mexico State 42-14. 2022 Mountain West Coach of the Year 2023 Fired

I looked at their overall record, which is probably one of if not the worst record Boise has had in a couple decades. I didn't see he was fired after a convincing win. That is odd timing. That said, the team didn't miss a beat in their first game without him. Mystery.

Mr. Genius also owes Avalos a ton of money.

My personal opinion is that this is similar to pushing out Coach Riley for Boise State. You may be going from the frying pan to the fire.

I think BSU is lowkey (to quote my 17 year old daughter) one of the higher pressure jobs in the nation, relative to their station. They build a brand as one of the Top G5 schools, they have an outsized share of MWC money, they get 1.5 media shares. they are suppose to be the kings of the MWC and really haven't been. Fair or not, at BSU you gotta win 10 games a year and win the MWC or you are out.

Before OA mentioned he was fired after a blowout win over NM St., I was convinced there must have been some internal issues. Based on the performance verse Utah St and then the players and assistants reaction at end of game, I sure don't see any signs of a team mourning a beloved coach being fired. I see the opposite. Forward to the 15:00 mark, does that look like a team unhappy about a coaching change?

It's amusing to me that they don't want Harsin back.

The team will rally around a coach when the HC gets canned or quits and moves on. Us against the world mentality.

I think Cory is coaching high school ball in Fresno these days.

Edison finished fifth in the six team County/Metro Conference.

Surprising nobody’s tied Jonathan to that coaching position yet.
