Actually, I'm pretty sure 1.7 was the example of how many subscribers it would take to get to 32 million a team. The break even point was probably lower, and one of the Arizona Presidents or ADs said Apple was going to split everything over the break even point.
If that break even point was at 1.3 million or lower, it should have been very easily manageable with the 9 teams.
Streaming is absolutely the way forward. Had the Pac-10 stayed together and made a deal with Apple TV, then the dam would have already been broken. Instead, it's still mostly on the back burner. Maybe the Pac-2 lands some sort of deal and gets the ball rolling. It would make perfect sense.
