1.7 million subscribers. That's all we needed to exceed to start getting more TV money than the baseline minimum.
If today's game was only on Apple+, imagine how many new subscribers would be signed up across the country.
Same for next week's Civil War. Same for the Pac-12 championship.
These late season games MATTER.
Yes, many might cancel soon thereafter. But many won't.
Gawd those school presidents were so f'ing shortsighted.

Actually, I'm pretty sure 1.7 was the example of how many subscribers it would take to get to 32 million a team. The break even point was probably lower, and one of the Arizona Presidents or ADs said Apple was going to split everything over the break even point. If that break even point was at 1.3 million or lower, it should have been very easily manageable with the 9 teams. |

Streaming is absolutely the way forward.
Had the Pac-10 stayed together and made a deal with Apple TV, then the dam would have already been broken.
Instead, it's still mostly on the back burner. Maybe the Pac-2 lands some sort of deal and gets the ball rolling. It would make perfect sense.
