The way I see it, Villanova, a Sweet Sixteen team last year, was the only major test on our out of conference schedule. Barring some major collapse some night, I believe we'll be 11-0 when conference play starts on New Year's Eve. Hopefully, that will bring back some of the fans who have been missing the last couple of years.
Thoughts?

I've been thinking about why OSU isn't playing any of the ranked teams in the pre pac season. Villanova was contractually obligated to play and otherwise no one wanted to play against the Beav's. OSU had a losing season last year and not much better the year before. I think other teams figured it was lose lose to play the Beav's. If the lose then they've lost to a bad team, and if they win they don't get much for it. And I think that basketball folks looking at OSU are thinking that it might not be such an easy win. Better to just stay clear.

Are they pure band wagon fans or are they doing something else? I don't know the answer.

That seems pretty self-evident, to me at least.

The missing piece of the fan base is the students. Why they don't market more easily and "push" tickets into the hands (Phones) of students really surprises me.
Agree the pre-conference schedule is a bit bland. I'd love to see some solid player groupings emerge so that they can implement sets with confidence.
GO BEAVS!

Good point but I think something after Covid happened too.

I've looked at the names of the teams we play in the non-conference, but I haven't actually taken a look at what those teams bring to the court. The one game that intrigues me is the Jackson State game. First surprise, they were willing to come back out here for the second year in a row. I really like the way Timeka Reed gets her players to play. I'm not sure how good they will be this year, but their roster is loaded with upperclass players. In their one game so far, 13 players saw the court, 5 Grad students, 1 other SR, 5 Juniors, and 2 sophomores. What I like about playing them is that they play hard, have some talent (Angel Jackson) and obviously have a lot of players with experience. They made the game in Corvallis close last year, it will be interesting to see what they bring this season.
