I’ll be honest, I didn’t see all that much contact on Pope’s final “and one.” But I’ll take it and the win. Wasn’t always or even often pretty, but a win at this time of year with a young team — even against a team we should beat — is a good thing. Hopefully this is a “growing” game for the team. A few thoughts/observations. As bad as Pope was in the earlier stages of the game, he was that special and more during the later stages. When he’s rolling like that he is so fun to watch. Bilodeau had a coming out game. Maybe he had a better game(s) last year, but I don’t recall one. He scored in a variety of different ways. Needs to be smarter with 4 fouls though. I believe he had a bad turnover right before he fouled out. When the TO occurred my first thought was, don’t compound it by making a dumb foul trying to make up for the TO by being too aggressive on D. Hopefully he learns from that because they need him on the floor, especially with Rataj out. Is there a more frustrating player than Akanno? Too often he looks like a guy who is talented enough to get to a spot but not talented enough to get the payoff. But then he’ll hit a big 3 or finish a drive, and you remember that they need his scoring so going to have to take the bad with the good. Wright is looking like the player I hoped he would be last year. I thought he seemed like a player that could have a nice sophomore jump, but the injury took that chance away. Well the jump might have just been delayed a year. Liked his activity in game 1 and he built upon that to have a very nice game — save for the 5 TOs — last night. The Bigs — I’ll just say that KC and Chol have their limitations and leave it at that. The Frosh — While Craig was the board darling in game 1, I was much more impressed and intrigued by Lake. Seeing him on the floor down the stretch in crunch time was pretty impressive for a freshman let alone a walk-on. His game was impacted by the increase in competition (didn’t look quite as smooth), but the moment never looked too big for him. He may never be a #1 or #2 option, but I think we might have ourselves a solid+ player in the making. I commented after first game that I didn’t notice Ndong much. Can’t say that after game 2. He’s young and raw, but definitely has some talent with which to work. As does Gavin, though we might have to wait to see them all until he gains strength. Nice to see the Beavs convert this type of game — no matter who the opponent — into a win. Need to play better overall to keep that happening, but for now I’ll just be happy for the win. Great stuff. Christyon Eugene reached. Stupid foul. No chance to make a play. Bilodeau played his best game ever. Double-doubles are hard to beat, whether it be on the court or at In 'N' Out. The team, and especially Bilodeau, need to weather the current storm without Rataj, because, hopefully, the cavalry's coming.

Teams like Troy are tough. They have 3 seasoned guards who play like junk-yard dogs. We saw the firepower of Muhammed, Eugene and Conerway. Dowd just about won the game single handedly for the Trojans. I saw freshman Ndong have a game. Hopefully there's more of that.
Go Beavs!

It's a good sign that the team was able to pull out a win at the end even after Bilodeau fouled out before the end of regulation. He was the best player on the floor the last 5-6 minutes of game time before he fouled out, muscling up and hitting tough shots. To still get the win after two overtime periods later after Bilodeau fouled out showed some grit.

My guess is a double overtime win probably teaches a team more about "how" to win than a close win in regulation time. It can be a wake-up call, without the demoralizing loss. The trick is to use that to just win without the drama of overtime in the future. Last night they learned that 3 points up with 6 seconds left is not a win. They wouldn't have "learned" that if Troy hadn't scored to tie the game.

Go Beavs! so is this a quality win or should us fans be concerned it took 2OTs to win? They've won 20 games each of the past two seasons and have experience. BUT.....they're probably nothing more than an average D1 team at best. They were missing one of their better players (as were we). I think the way to look at it is we were fortunate to win despite a lot of really bad fundamental mistakes. The kind of mistakes we shouldn't be seeing from an fairly experienced quality backcourt like Akanno and Pope. If these things get cleaned up quickly and we get Rataj back, we should continue to improve and have a shot to finish over .500. I was alarmed (and obviously annoyed lol) to see how consistently inept we were trying to inbound the ball in all situations: Like under pressure after made baskets, after regular out of bounds situations and even multiple times after a timeout. Those kind of things just can't keep happening. There's so many other more difficult things that can hold ya back to be struggling so much in this area.

The key they'dbe 12th in the Pac12. But, it's a W.

How hard is to teach and then execute inbounds plays?

I enjoy watching the games and pulling for the Beaver players and team, no matter how good the squad is, who's coaching, etc.

Go Beavs! so is this a quality win or should us fans be concerned it took 2OTs to win? it’s a quality win from a coach’s perspective as in the only thing better than a win is a win with plenty of teaching moments. WT has plenty of those to keep the players’ attention without it costing a loss. Team showed good resiliency, which is great. But as others have pointed out, the difficulty getting the ball inbounds is concerning.
