Beavers are the only team in the Pac12 not utilizing NIL money in the recruiting of football and MBB, and people wonder why recruits aren't lining up to commit? Even San Diego State in the MWC uses it and they pay their MBB players a monthly stipend. Why would any recruit want to say no to the money? The frustration was evident with ex-OSU coach Tim Shelton. That's why he took his parting shot, shook his head and left for CSU. If there's one program that needs to use NIL in recruiting, it's Oregon State.
Incorrect... OSU utilizes NIL $ for both. How much, like any school, is rumor and pure speculation. Even recruits themselves have lied about what school NIL organizations have offered. But, as the HC from WSU stated OSU isn't at the bottom of the Pac12 rung in terms of NIL by a long shot.

george: I will take Tim Shelton's word over yours. At least Shelton was in a position to know, and we all heard what he said and saw what he did. If you have proof that OSU has used NIL money for new recruits of football and MBB previously, present it now. Otherwise, stand down.

My best posts originate from the Top of the Peacock after midnight.

My total guess is Pope may have received something, maybe not up front but with some "understanding" it would come if he contributed. I think it was mentioned that Pope had a bit of a deal last year before season's end. I could be wrong on the timing, but his stock went up a lot between his commitment and the time he got here.
The thing is, some schools hand out money like it's candy at Halloween. I can see telling a kid that if they are contributing they will be taken care of - not sure if that's what OSU is offering or not - but apparently there are a bunch of schools offering money to players just to do recruiting visits, and that's tough to compete with.
Jared Lucas said he was getting paid at OSU but got a lot more in Reno. I read Pope got over $100k for returning. I'd be shocked if any one on scholarship was only getting tuition, books, room & board. I'm also fairly certain our payroll is 11 of the 12 Pac schools.

I'll take Kyle Smith's and Dickert's words over your made up BS that lends itself to excuse making. Proof? Hmmmm supposed $100k for Pope is one example? Headphone deal for DJU? There are two easy ones.
As for Shelton... he's a quitter. Or plain stupid. He took the job, assumingly eyes wide open. OSU is NEVER EVER going to out NIL any of the top 40+ D1 hoop or football schools. Just as we have a miniscule budget compared to some of those schools. NIL levels have not changed the status quo in terms of overall status as the rich still get richer. The NIL + the portal was a bigger issue, and the one-time transfer will help some.
You do realize NIL $ are not from the school and the school has no control on their dispersal. OSU's status in terms of WT's recruiting acumen has not been as negatively effected as the some want us to believe. Just look at the recruits...

Yeah... the BS of OSU "is the only Pac12 school not using NIL" is as pure BS as folks who think they know the exact numbers and who gets what.
Who's panicking? Or when did anyone state WT need to be fired?
You gave excuses why no recruits, I gave you a team in the exact situation that does. Both have open schollies next year. How many is irrelevant.
Next.. we've all known since his last extension and the conference issues he's not going anywhere anytime soon. Big campaigns huh?
Since you and others want to use the E8 as some "proof of life". The circumstances of that season that lead to the E8 will never happen again. And, the collapse and wasted momentum the season after won't either.
The whole season? They've played Linfield, a game that doesn't even register in the NET. A projection? So, we are limited to only positive comments. Good to know.
I'll flat out say that because of the last 2 years, recruits aren't busting down the foors to get in. Right now that's not a big deal. If we have a bad season and kids transfer out it could be a big deal. That's not an excuse, it's reality, but it ain't happened yet. .
If Tinkle isn’t recruiting as if he’ll have open scholarships than that is a problem. Regardless of how the season turns out, given recent history and college basketball trends the Beavers will have at least one transfer if not more. Also, what is the Pac 12 and Oregon State’s stance on athletic scholarships. Are they for 4 years or are they “renewable” annually for up to 4 years? If Akanno or Marial want to come back does Oregon State have to let them — especially given they will have completed their 4th year of college and possibly their degrees? I felt going into season that unless Chol made great strides, this should be his last year. Then you have a player like Rochelin. For whatever the reasons, he hasn’t worked out. Hopefully he turns it around and makes some progress this season, but if not I have no issue with WT letting him know there isn’t a path for playing time for him.
So while it is somewhat understandable that Beavers have no early signees and maybe not a big deal, it certainly isn’t “no deal.” Add in the fact that one sees very little mention of Beavers by recruits, and I’m not brimming with confidence about recruiting. Hopefully WT has an ace or two up his sleeve.
