Sign of another failed post-Miller coaching regime circling the drain, or does Wayne tinkle out a miracle somehow?
He must be the only coach at OSU who cheers the demise of the Pac-12, knowing it is the main thing that prevents him from being fired; we can no longer afford to buy him out. Any chance he 'takes one for the team' like Gary Anderson and walks away on his own, leaving $$$ on the table?
Sigh. Never mind, I know the answer to that last one.

Freak out time!!!
We currently have a maximum of 2 scholies to give, and maybe not even that. AND... OSU can't even tell recruits who we're playing next year.
Blame Tinkle!
What did you expect?

LOL... excuse #?? WSU has two quality 3* kids ready to sign, and committed. OSU does not even have a commitment listed for '24. Not an excuse. Just not panicking or looking for every possible reason to can the coach. I believe Akanno is done after this season and Marial has probably burned up his eligibility (although California's Dejuan Clayton played his 7th season last year and was trying to transfer to another school for an 8th - I don't know how that works). We could have a walk-on in line for a scholarship if he keeps playing like the other day. I think WSU has up to 5 people to replace after this season. Here in a few months both schools could be in a world of hurt depending on how realignment and the transfer porthole goes. I've been pretty consistent in all sports that you don't go on a big campaign to fire a coach until the season pans out, unless the coach does something against the rules or that puts the team/university in a compromising position. At that point you look at progress made and the likely progress the next season. You and your other board identities have been calling for Tinkle's dismissal for a long time. Too bad you were on time out during the Elite 8 run, kinda convenient for you. It would have been interesting to see if you would have been as negative through that entire journey. I'm wanting to see how this season goes. We've got 10 returning players, most of them underclassmen, and a couple fairly good looking freshmen. Why spend the whole season being negative? It looks like some in this thread may have already started.

You gave excuses why no recruits, I gave you a team in the exact situation that does. Both have open schollies next year. How many is irrelevant. Next.. we've all known since his last extension and the conference issues he's not going anywhere anytime soon. Big campaigns huh? Since you and others want to use the E8 as some "proof of life". The circumstances of that season that lead to the E8 will never happen again. And, the collapse and wasted momentum the season after won't either. The whole season? They've played Linfield, a game that doesn't even register in the NET. A projection? So, we are limited to only positive comments. Good to know.

They've played Linfield, a game that doesn't even register in the NET. A projection? So, we are limited to only positive comments. Good to know. The OP in this thread seemed to be pining for Tinkle to be gone. We don't really know how many scholarships OSU has available next year. It's possible there are zero, if Marial applies for an additional year, or Lake gets a scholie, Dexter might have a covid year coming as well, in which case there is no room for signees. I think it ends up more like 3-4, could be worse if the portal gets busy, but there's no rush until kids are actually signaling they are leaving, especially if it's just one or two and the coaches think they can do better with a good season this year - in my mind to be complaining right now is panicking. I'll flat out say that because of the last 2 years, recruits aren't busting down the foors to get in. Right now that's not a big deal. If we have a bad season and kids transfer out it could be a big deal. That's not an excuse, it's reality, but it ain't happened yet. You have been complaining about Tinkle for years. Maybe it's not "campaigning" and you just are a negative person - however your football posts and defense of Riley from time to time lead me to believe you are not. I don't buy the idea Tinkle won't/can't be fired IF this season goes south. The elite 8 year bought him a year after the following disaster of a season, last year was genuinely better and we have a promising core. If the team gets worse, there 's no guarantee he survives another year, if it improves he likely will. OSU's proven recently that they can raise money to get high need items done quickly, if that involves firing a head coach after this year, it's a heck of a lot cheaper than it was after the last two seasons. Linfield showed us nothing, but there's really little to be negative about in regards to that game. We're not limited to positive comments, but some here have histories of focusing on the negative, especially when it comes to Tinkle. In this case we've already got people complaining about Wednesday's lack of signings, and I've not seen anywhere that the coaches have ever addressed how many spots, if any, are actually available. I think that right now folks are frazzled about the unknowns of how realignment affects the future and have a difficulty with just chilling and waiting to see how things are going to go. Oh well, come March we should have a fair idea.

Two reasons recruiting is poor, one we have one of if not the worst power-5 program in the nation over the past 30 years and we are going to take a step down in the completion we play. In the past it was hard to sell the program but at least we could sell getting an opportunity to play in the Pac-12, no more.

Truth be told we are stacked with talent. Potential recruits know they have no chance of immediate playing time. They are looking elsewhere.

Beavers are the only team in the Pac12 not utilizing NIL money in the recruiting of football and MBB, and people wonder why recruits aren't lining up to commit? Even San Diego State in the MWC uses it and they pay their MBB players a monthly stipend. Why would any recruit want to say no to the money? The frustration was evident with ex-OSU coach Tim Shelton. That's why he took his parting shot, shook his head and left for CSU. If there's one program that needs to use NIL in recruiting, it's Oregon State.

So what you are saying is Mr. Smith should be the basketball coach. Pray tell how does he recruit 3 star football players without NIL and turn the team into a current top 12 team? Maybe Wayne needs to talk to niner.

The closest thing OSU would have to a MBB Smith would be:
A) Gary Payton
B) Lester Conner
If/when WT gets fired, I would love to see the job offered to one or the other. Maybe they both could return to OSU (I think Lester is currently an assistant with GP at Lincoln U).

Don't know if that's ever changed. It'll be interesting to see how Gary does as a coach.

Good question. Maybe:
A) Lester should finish his degree if that's what it takes
and/or
B) Bob De Carolis is no longer the OSU prez. Things change over time.
