I don’t think being a bulls fan has anything to do with politics. No but being buds with MJ doesn’t hurt. Mick Jagger is two busy with his 25 year old girlfriend to care about American politics.

As has been pointed out, Joey Meyer did not kill the program. He wasn’t Ray, but he was a good coach in his own right. Last several years were downward trending (belief team got one-year probation somewhere in there) culminating in his final season when academic issues and injuries were a problem. After that him it was a slow death.
Pat Kennedy was pretty much a huckster, but got the team back to NCAA and his teams had academic issues. Leitao did OK, but program was lost about that time.
Loved watching Blue Demons on WGN and everyone in Chicago knew of Ray Meyer. Being on WGN meant not just locals like me could see games but people all over the country in the time before ESPN. Program ran into problems with Chicago Public League coaches also. Those great early teams were made up of CPL stars. Not surprisingly, Chicago HS basketball is a cesspool. Back then the HS head coaches yielded the power, which was later followed by the AAU coaches. DePaul ran into problems with CPL coaches over the issues Teddy Grubbs had at DePaul. He suffered from some psychological issues and never reached heights expected of him. His HS coach Landon Cox, who was one of the deans of CPL coaches, started actively directing kids away from DePaul and encouraging other CPL coaches to do the same. That switch really hurt DePaul but one of the beneficiaries was my Illini.
As an aside, I actually watched about 10 minutes of DePaul-Seton Hall last night. Man are they bad. I hope they get the coaching hire right.

What do you know? 6 in a row! Routed Seton Hall by 19. I know, I know. SH had nothing to play for, saving themselves, the lights were in their eyes. Or maybe that Pitino guy can coach a little.

I never said Pitino couldn't coach. He can. Good for St. John's. He's also a first-class scumbag.
You, OTOH, said Joey Meyer killed the DePaul program.
One of us was right.
Taylor had a whopping four of their 91 points. He better go into the portal again because when Pitino gets rid of what he called his "players with no lateral quickness" while throwing them under the bus he's never going to see the floor.

Well, the SJU streak is ended by UConn, 95-90. Great end of season run that should get a team in the tourney that had no chance 7 games ago.

If that “scumbag” ever wanted to come and coach in Corvallis I’d welcome him with open arms. Some wouldn’t, and for them having a crappy coach that’s a good guy is enough. I’ll take the winning A-hole. When you said he was a POS I took that to mean in every facet. I said right away that I was wrong about Meyer. Sue me. Yet Taylor still starts, which I admit is odd.

It is possible to have a good coach who isn't a scumbag like Pitino. I have no desire to sue anyone. Every hooker in Corvallis would also welcome him with open ... something. Six points of 90 tonight for Taylor. But I guess he'll get to play in an NCAA tournament first four game.

Hopefully you would agree with me that we sure as hell can’t seem to find one! And yeah, Taylor sure hasn’t done much in his new uni. Agree.

That's why so many of them are fired every year. Even harder to find good coaches who don't cheat.
