With the news that Kirk Cousins is out for the season, can we assume that means that Sean Mannion will be elevated to the active roster from the PS?
I assume they'll play out the season with rookie Jaron Hall as the starter and Mannion as back-up. I'm not sure the status of Nick Mullens, who is currently on IR.
Vikings are still in playoff contention, but I doubt they're so much of a contender that they'll try to trade for a more viable starter (or even that there are available viable starters out there).

I have heard that Jaron Hall is a developmental prospect, a great backup but no one that you want to rely on for an entire game. He is on the roster, because the Vikings are worried about him getting snaked by another team, if they tried to have him clear waivers to drop down to the Practice Squad. One of four things probably happens. The Vikings sign a free agent, sign another quarterback off of someone else's Practice Squad, make a trade, or start Sean Mannion this week. Nick Mullens is on IR but can come off next week, so, after this week, Mullens might be the quarterback. Mannion did not do terrible in his two starts with the Vikings over the past four years. The first was a game with all scrubs, because the Vikings were resting their starters for the playoffs in 2019. The 2021 game is the game that he is usually judged on, but it was also Zimmer's second-to-last game as a head coach at any level. I still believe that Mannion can excel in the right system.

The Vikings just traded for Josh Dobbs, so it looks like Mannion is unlikely to see any on-field action.
