…… from Central Catholic. Decided to matriculate in Eugene, instead. No surprise. Is Tink EVER going to land the best player in OUR state? Any state? Just being a smart-ass. We were (supposedly) in the kid’s final three, along with hole and ‘furd.” Would have been a nice get. Apparently, he wants to travel to the freaking midwest in the winter.

If WT could ever put together back to back good seasons in the now, portal era, he might get a few disillusioned quality players. But, since the portal became real prevalent it was E8 then crap. This promises to be better... hopefully. If not, he really has to go if at all possible (Now with the budget issues I do not see how it could be?!) as there is enough of a roster for a new coach to take off running But, overall the recruiting and/or player development has been Pac12 quality. Sadly, if OSU had even a decent NC schedule his overall record would even be worse. He is the one coach that probably secretly welcomes a MWC reverse merger. Although with a smaller budget and the merged conference, OSU maybe looking for a cheaper option if the next season or two is not far more successful. Ok... sort of rambling... too many HH margaritas now followed by Peg Leg Porker watching the WS.

We can't have underwhelming results at his pay in the MWC or wherever we wind up. This needs to behis last season

This needs to behis last season Unfortunately now, because of his extensions there is no way the budget can eat his buyout with this current conference unrest. So, I'm hoping for some W's. But, like the women, just do not see more than 7-8 wins in Conference play tops. OSU just does not have the depth/talent overall. The teams ahead of both programs did not regress.

Why would any recruit refuse the money and pick OSU?
If the last 30 years of OSU MBB hasn't been proof enough, welcome to the new age of NIL, where OSU is the only program in the Pac12 that won't use a collective to land new recruits in MBB (also football and baseball). When Tim Shelton left for Colorado State, it shoulda been a wake up call. Nope. Glenn Taylor Jr knows wazz up. He left for 'greener pastures'. It wasn't bread crumbs he was following, it was $100 bills, all the way to St John's!
Shelton: “You’re like, man, are we going to get lapped before we get in the race?"
Oh yes, and how about Beaver baseball: Last year in baseball, Oregon State was in the hunt to recruit Air Force right-hander Paul Skenes, who was in the transfer portal. He wound up at Louisiana State, where he won D1 Baseball Player of the Year honors and pitched the Bayou Tigers to the College World Series title — beating Oregon State in the Baton Rouge Regional. On July 9, the Pittsburgh Pirates made Skenes the first pick in the MLB draft.
“He could have been in a Beaver uniform,” Scott Sanders says. “He ended up going to LSU for the money. That’s the world we’re living in right now. We had him. NIL is the reason we didn’t get him. Strictly because of the money. The bigger SEC schools have unlimited resources. That’s tough to compete against.”
This year, the Beavers lost out on Sacramento State shortstop Wehiwa Aloy — the WAC Freshman of the Year — to Arkansas. And UCLA pitcher Kelly Austin, the Bruins’ No. 1 starter, to Florida. NIL money was at least a factor.
“We have seen it in the baseball landscape,” says Darwin Barney, the former OSU shortstop great now an assistant coach on Canham’s staff. “What a lot of schools are doing is using NIL money as if they are scholarships.”
“Recruits are telling us, ‘They start with this number. What do you have?’ ” Barney says. “And we don’t have it. We don’t even have stipend money to give to everybody.”
What number does Oregon State have? "Zero"
Ball game.

Notice you didn't mention football other than to say football doesn't use the collective for new recruits. Yet here we are 6-1. Quit making excuses for a coach that's lucky to have a job.

Tim Shelton knows more about Beaver MBB than you do. I'll take his word over yours. People who compare the sport of football to basketball are lazy.

Tim Shelton knows more about Beaver MBB than you do. I'll take his word over yours. People who compare the sport of football to basketball are lazy. People that bitch about reality are not only lazy but enablers if mediocrity. The NIL is here, for now, and OSU will never EVER compete with schools in the SEC for donor $. Or any school with wealthy set of athletic donors. Do, get over it. Plenty of other hoops programs with far less substance thrive far better than OSU has. And before any NIL excuse. If Skenes was truly interested in OSU as a program he would have been in Black & Orange. No? He was interested in $ and a great program. That's how it's going to be for the time being. Hating on the LSU's and Oregon due to donors is hypocrisy at its finest. As the "Karen & Chad" types would love to have those $, yet would simply find another bitch/excuse(s). Why don't you incorporate the old, often used crying towel... Corvallis is just so hard to recruit to. I mean let's just raise a ton of $ to move the university to a new location. Until the NIL cat is leashed or put back in the bag, OSU will have to do whatever it can to succeed. Your NIL cries are not only lazy, full of hearsay and misinformation, but futile. Just as with the conference realignment doomsday crowd, you'd think OSU doesn't land any quality players. With how it's going OSU probably should just shutter athletics! 🤔

Again, Tim Shelton and Darwin Barney know far more about recruiting to OSU than rgeorge does. I'll take their word over the un-informed.

And, as usually some just can't stay on the topic of a post that they are supposedly refuting.
Don't think anyone mentioned or doubted DB or "who cares about a quitter".
But, that's what "Chad" types do. Way to live down to your image.

Not the NCAA. Not the feds. College sports is worse than the major sports leagues right now in providing some sort of lever to balance out athletics. It doesn't mean we can't be competitive, for sure. But I do think it's going to put a big dent in any consistency we experience. I hope I am completely wrong.

The difference between the NFL and college football? There isn't a salary cap in college football.

The best thing that happened to WT was conference realignment. With OSUs financial future being so unsettled it would be foolish to spend money to buy out his contract. Maybe in a couple of years...
