OSU ended up with the most Q3 + Q4 games(25) in the Pac12, with the least total Q1 games at (12). Again we're better than that and it hurts come post season seeding.
I think we should schedule a lot tougher as well, but last year was sort of an anomaly. We had the bye week the final week of the season, which meant not many teams wanted to come here. We could have 3 bigger games if anybody was available. In 2022, the bye week series was #133 RPI Long Beach State instead of #201 Western Carolina.
And a bunch of teams who are usually pretty good had down years.
Gonzaga went from #31 in 2022 to #198 in 2023.
Grand Canyon was #55, dropped to #71.
Nevada was #83, dropped to #220.
Portland was #91, dropped to #106.
But Xavier (#62) and UC Irvine (#87) swapped out for Cal Poly (#168) and Coppin State (#278) was not great. But then again, Cal Poly had been #99 in 2022, so another down year hurt us.
Yep... not exact science but to say it can't be done because we're in the NW is just not true. There are teams you know are very weak and just shouldn't be scheduled unless you've got balance on the other end. With Arlington we have some. I'll be curious who else is on the schedule besides the "regulars"... UP, Seattle U, etc.

We should look to play more Big West teams. Maybe they're not willing to come up here though? Or pick some DBU, Campbell, Indiana State type teams who are usually good and might want to come out to play.

I've heard a rumor the Beavs are playing mid week game(s) in Arlington vs Texas Tech between Surprise and Arlington weekends. Not sure of the validity of that rumor at this point but if true would be a help to RPI

Not sure of the validity of that rumor at this point but if true would be a help to RPI If so, that would be quite a busy early season schedule. Surprise and Arlington alone account for 7 games over a 10 day period, with only Tue-Wed-Thur in between. Add in another game, and I would imagine that the entire pitching staff will get an opportunity to see the mound.

The schedule is what it is. Often times we play teams like Gonzaga, UC Irvine, San Diego, Nevada, Gonzaga, GCU, etc., during our non conference, and generally those programs are pretty damn good baseball programs. Sure, last year some of the non-conference teams we played had down years, but the bottom line is you play the schedule you have and if you want to be an Omaha team, you need to win games you are supposed to win. I don’t care what our overall schedule is, the pac 12 is a really tough conference week in and week out. If we take care of business, and win the games we are supposed to win, this can be an Omaha team. We can’t get to the end of the season and blame SOS or RPI for why we didn’t go farther. The reason we didn’t go farther the last couple of seasons was because we just weren’t good enough. There were games and series we lost that championship teams don’t lose. The reason why we won it in 2006, 2007, and 2018 is because we won all the games/series we had to. Sounds simple, but that’s just what it comes down to.
Bottom line is, this team will be preseason top 15 to start the season. As long as we win the games and series we are supposed to win, we will host and have a legit shot at Omaha. If we drop some non conference games that we shouldn’t (like UP, New Mexico, Nevada last year), or we lose a series or two that we shouldn’t (Washington State last year), we won’t host and it makes our path to Omaha that much tougher. Don’t blame the SOS or RPI. Great teams win the games and series they should to put them in a position to make deep runs. If you aren’t top 15-20 to start your year, you need to care a little more about those things, but if you start the year ranked top 15-20, you just need to take care of business. Personally, I think this team is loaded, and will absolutely be in play to host in the postseason and make an Omaha run.

Cool we can see Dernedde in Arlington Dernedde transfered? I don't follow sports out of season very well. Yeah he went to Michigan, rumor is he got some nice NIL but who knows whats true. I'm fairly surprised to see he go to the BIG10 considering he has the skillset to go somewhere better. That said Michigan is one of the better teams in their league the last decade and he has a pretty good shot at being a featured part of a team thats in the post season. He was definitely going to end up sharing time at best with the amount of bat talent on the team now. SS has something like Trosky, Hainline, Brandon Forrester, Reeve Boyd, Caraway, and Peterson all competing to play next to Baz. Doubtless some of those guys can also play 3rd or 1st but there is just so much talent and atleast two of those bats (Hainline and Caraway) are well worth some drop off in defense for the extra production. Its not any easier to get on 1st and 3rd with Guerra certainly locking down one of those and some other heavies like Krieg looking for a spot. Teams loaded and Kyle looks to have landed on his feet where he will get plenty of spotlight and playing time.

I don't want to do both, but 4 games, three high quality teams (UM not really high on them), good weather is a great trip.
