The chipster talking out both sides again...
What's to keep basketball from following the money too? When the revenue sports are gone who pays 6to keep the conference alive?

Yeah, so the Pac-12 remains intact for every sport except football.
The other 10 schools have mountains of cash from their rights fees, they can't possibly spend all of it on football, so they spend it on the other sports. Meanwhile, us and Wazzu, who don't, are still screwed.
Real fair.

Hoops has a tourney... it is where the money is. No needs for hoops to follow anything but making or being in a conference where multiple teams make the tourney. Completely different animal. And, is basically what Chip is spouting... all D1 teams competing together. Except in football it is P5 and G5 vs various conferences and their tournaments feeding one national tournament.

So...the solution to realignment is to sequester the money making power of college football to only the elite teams and then allow them to compete against the non-elite schools in the non-revenue sports. Sounds like a great idea for a school like Oregon State.
While we're at it, maybe we can just have the smaller schools subsidize the bigger schools to ensure their success.

The problem with 64 Independent teams is broadcasting. Duh. That’s why we are here in the first place. A school like UCLA wouldn’t need to worry about that like OSU, WSU, and others might.
It solves a bias problem that has existed for years, but it doesn’t solve this problem. Then again, I’m not sure that he cares as much as we do, given that UCLA was one of the first out.
