Curious how Utah is any more culpable than Colorado, USC or UCLA? I'm pretty sure this is about torpedoing the ESPN deal last winter. ESPN offered around 30 mil, the Pac came back with 50 and ESPN walked. Colorado wasn't gone at the time.

Utah did that to start the negotiations and then meet somewhere in the middle, and UCLA was apparently willing to come back if they came closer to that number. Our wonderful commissioner was told to use that to start negotiations, and continue talking to ESPN from there, but he decided to tell ESPN it was a take it or leave it offer and didn't try to negotiate from there... Canzano article also spoke how the Utah President wanted to be included in the negotiations, but George wouldn't allow it, and kept it to only himself and a small group of his friends, hiding the information from the Presidents.

I can't find the Canzano article, so here's a video... Saw this on Reddit on Friday. Personally, I don’t care. There were lots of opportunities to save the conference along the way. f%#* them all.

I think this is the article drunkandstoopidbeav is referring to: www.johncanzano.com/p/canzano-truth-behind-the-pac-12s I found it last night on a WSU forum I like to snoop. Definitely a good read. If you scroll around the right way, you can read the entire article, getting past the "Discover more from Bald Faced Truth by John Canzano" pop-up add in the middle of the page.

At this point, I would have liked to have had Wilner spill the beans on OSU's and WSU's mistakes. Wilner pointed out that "the circumstances that led to USC’s actions were years in the making and the result of an upside-down culture in which Arizona State and Oregon State had more influence in the boardroom than the L.A. schools." So...how did OSU help the demise of the Pac 12?

I'm assuming having Riley, De Carolis and Ed Ray for so many years at the same time probably is the reason OSU had unexpected power in the conference board room. I would not have thought about that before reading the Wilner article.

I’m curious how the Kliavkoff defenders can defend George any longer with that kind of deviant, kniving behavior.

Stating that GK is an "employee" and works for the 12 Presidents isn't defending. The Pac12 bosses had every opportunity to reel in the last two commissioners. Both losers, both enabled by their bosses. Articles posted seems to provide evidence that both LS & GK could have been fired for cause in not representing the conference as told and as a whole. GK still has his job. Who's responsible? That's not "defending" it's stating facts.

I would not have thought about that before reading the Wilner article. My recollection is Ed Ray was right there with ASU's President as a Scott supporter as Scott started coming under media fire. It may have been nothing more than "I like you because you like me." Also, as you say, Ray was one of the longer serving university presidents by then.

I've seen that mentioned a lot, but other than one Wilner article that includes this quote about how bad refs weren't affecting fundraising, I still haven't heard what Ray did to enable Larry Scott. “We have no interest in letting others define us,” wrote Oregon State president Ed Ray. “We do have so much to be proud of … I have seen no adverse impact of sportswriter nastiness among supporters of the university. We should talk about seizing the communications initiative in the sports world. I think some of your concern is probably due to having to deal continually with the characters who populate sports media.” I know he loved the Pac 12 network, which I actually think was ahead of its time. The only problem is they didn't get it to a wide enough audience.
