Incredible or what?
Amazing that her 1st World Title was 10 years ago! At 16🤯
34 medals in Worlds & Olympics, most in gymnastics history... men or women.

She's incredible, yes. I'm not sure that all the constant Biles-centric hype is really as great for gymnastics as it might seem. Yeah, some more people might watch, but just for Biles. I have no doubt that there are youngsters out there who will be inspired to get into the sport or work harder to reach some set goals. That's all positive, I guess. But it's all so much about Biles I'm not sure it's making people more interested in the sport as a whole when it's always just her results scrolling across the bottom of the ESPN screen or mentioned on Sportscenter or other sports broadcasts. I wonder how many people that know of Biles have even heard of Jade Carey or other current top gymnasts, for example, or even some of the great gymnasts of the past?

People who know the sport know just how great it is for the sport and the population of kids into said sport.

Clearly so many others on this board care. I follow gymnastics pretty closely. I just was throwing some thoughts out there.

Just thought I'd add to the conversation.

People who know the sport know just how great it is for the sport and the population of kids into said sport. Superstars draw new fans of the sport into the fray. People who follow the sport closely will not react as favorably to the heavy coverage and chatter from casuals. It's annoying to listen to. I get that, as a fan of combat sports I was sick to death of Conor McGregor for instance. But he undeniably brought more eyeballs to the sport.

It’s the folks who only watch for an hour or two every 4 years who seem to have their “issues” with her. That she courageously led US women’s gymnastics out of the Karolyi/Nassar/Steve Penny cesspool into a new era of competitive excellence is her lasting legacy.

I'd say that there also is an undercurrent of racism involved with the folks who only watch for an hour or two every 4 years, similar to the criticism that Serena Williams faced from "those people".

I generally don't pay to much mind to the opinions of people who's most athletic thing they do every day is wipe cheeto dust of their shirts as they s%#t post on the internet. But in this case, it is particularly galling to watch the crowd of "know it alls" offer commentary on a sport they absolutely know jack s%#t about, and opine about a person's choice to pull out of a competition, which, ironically, removed the spot light from themselves and allowed people like Jade Cary and Sunisa Lee to shine. These sad sacks couldn't do a cartwheel if their life depended on it, but sure are ready to immediately cast judgement on the choices of the single greatest athlete the sport has ever had, all without even having the slightest clue about the intense mental aspect that sport demands.

Greatest Of All Time. Period. She also had the GUTS to step away, and deal publicly with her mental health issues, helping/enabling (encouraging) others to do the same.
