I personally have had it with the change in rules that allows the offensive players to assist the runner! Perhaps well intentioned, it now reeks of the early days of the Flying Wedge! Welcome back to the 1900’s!

Welcome back to the 1900’s! I agree, and I even see far too many instances of players 'pulling' instead of pushing, which is supposed to be illegal. The way you stop this is to go low in the scrum, and that will inevitably lead to injuries. However, we definitely have benefitted from this on short yardage situations...

I'm still confused about why the rule was changed.
Was it retro-actively legalizing the "Bush Push"?
Did they think it was too hard for officials to enforce?
For decades there was a rule against aiding the runner, and it didn't seem like it was called very often, nor were there many uncalled instances of it.
Now that teams have figured out how to take advantage of it, it happens ALL the time. I'd rather see it go back to what it used to be, but I'm also against most of the new MLB rules (outside of the pitch clock, which is great), for which I appear to be in the minority.

Yes, it basically retroactively legalized the Bush Push. It was very difficult for officials to enforce, because it is legal to block near the runner but not push the runner himself. Plays like that are supposed to come down to intent. Where the blocker's intent is to block, there is no foul. Where the blocker's intent is to push the runner forward, there is a foul. But it was almost never called and a very ticky-tack call when called. But, unintended consequences being what they are, of course it is screwing up the game, because there was an obvious reason as to why it was a penalty in the first place.

Yeah, I think assisting with a cart is a little too much!
