Well "ward" there we go. A little "dog in the fight" a bit of bias?! Ha... good to know. Some stuff makes more sense now... that actually doesnt! So, in watching parts of three recent practices he has been getting his hat handed to him by not an elite front line. So, minutes played on this particular D1 P5 roster is really not a great measuring stick. Wow... you must be a relative. Coaches don't take flyers in talent? They do if they recognize talent as good teams have depth to wait and see, and certainly will. And, when they've struggled to win those teams have to! Have you seen the current and recent rosters here. Most were flyers of some sort. So coaches were disappointed cuz he wasn't playing, cuz they knew he was talented... yet didn't recruit him, publicly? Were trying to sneak him by others? Wanted to close on campus with no competition? Hmmmm... how does that work? You visit and no one else can recruit you? You have to accept on the visit? You can't commit then visit/listen to other schools? Yikes, super double secret stuff. Ever deal with recruiting? Cuz that's not how it works... ever! But... great story. PS- not slamming what the kid has been thru or might actually become. I've seen him play in games vs inferior competition where he was the tallest kid by 6". I've seen him practice vs a lower tier but pretty physical D1 team. He's a project... like the word or not, it is what it is. And lucky for him he is athletic as it makes his transition easier. But, your close connection (never say you stayed at the team hotel😉) has obviously got you selling some weird takes. But, all Beaver fans hope that more than 3-5 Pac12 wins are coming. Double digits overall should be cake with this NC schedule! Anyone who takes time to get on an obscure board about a college basketball team that hasn’t been very successful the last few years. Is obviously pretty into it. Second of all, I went back a long way, and you’ve been dogging this kid for a long time. You not knowing that recruiting has changed significantly over the last 4 to 6 years compared to how we were recruited when we played, shows that you don’t understand the difference between recruitment today and recruitment 10 or 20 years ago, which leads me to believe that you probably were never recruited. “we will offer you today if you commit today” that’s a pretty common deal for the moderately or lowly recruited players. Then you rambling on about him playing in a small town against kids that were 6 inches or more shorter than him. Also shows that you don’t realize that basketball is a guards game….. if you are not a guard, you completely rely on the skill set of your guards in how you are able to play your game. In college freshman, are supposed to get their butts handed to them for a little while. They improve faster than people who have played at a high level of competition for a long time. Anyway, it’s pretty clear that you’re not very impressed with using a scholarship on him. Hey now. No reason to have collateral damage/civilian casualties!

Anyway, it’s pretty clear that you’re not very impressed with using a scholarship on him. Ward, Ward, Ward... you may interpret my posts anyway you'd like. However when you start posting exaggerations and/or fabrications be prepared to be called out. Despite your obvious and stated extreme bias, "dogging" to you is simply calling out facts vs over hype. It would apply to any HS player participating is a fairly weak league with very limited exposure to elite competition, and dealing with multiple injuries. You began your visit with some absurd, unprovable assertion that no other 6'9" player can run as fast or jump as high. Then go on to elaborate how Wayne out foxed the competition to grab a steal of a recruit. To top it off you out and out lie stating I don't think (HTF do you have a clue what I think?) Gavin deserves a schollie. First, super athletic very fast, great leapers at 6'7"+ are super common all over the country. Try attending a few of the elite summer hoops tourneys. Second, OSU did not steal some super recruit (that would not be known until the recruit actually turns in to a super player) and outmaneuver teams that are now extremely disappointed. There might be a team(s) below the Pac12 level that coveted him, but they weren't out maneuvered. OSU was Gavin's best offer, by far, and he was wise to take it. OSU is a program that is down, hopefully rising (?), and offers him PT even as a "project". For all my above blathering (you call dogging) I basically (as another mentioned) said GM is a project. He is. The weak NC schedule offers even more opportunity to get minutes as OSU hopefully can run some of these teams out of Gill. You latest post blathers on, but really doesn't refute anything I've stated. And, as you opened your last post, someone who posts on an obscure board of a less than stellar team must be "pretty into it." Ahhh... really? Like all the posters here, including me, that have cared about OSU long before a "personal bias" had you care about the program. Message boards aren't for the thin-skinned (hence, from your initial posts you may want to reconsider online visits in season), but every fan here no matter how you want to interpret their posts have been here far longer and supported OSU online and in person far longer than you. Every single poster here, a WT fan or not, is an OSU fanatic and hopes beyond hope the MBB (and WBB) programs begin their rise. And, in doing so hope EVERY SINGLE player become all they can be, is highly productive on and off the court, and stays here for their entire eligibility. A dream? Maybe, but it's what we fans do...

OK first of all, I came in here, and said what I said, based in fact off of the skills combine that was held at the university of Washington in the summer of 2022
They did all the NBA combine workouts
Gavin had a higher vertical jump and a faster shuttle time than anyone in that year‘s NBA combine that was 6’8” or taller…… regardless of anything else that is a super impressive athlete.
those are two things that are very easy to get excited about. When you have a kid that is more athletic than people who are going into the NBA draft that’s a pretty cool thing.
Also, I probably should have clarified my words a little bit more when I said his speed and his vertical jump are a very rare combination for someone who is 6 foot 11 1/2……. He may very well not be the fastest, and he may very well not be the highest jumper, but there’s probably almost no one better than him at both that is that size.
Then I went on to say what the players had said in the interview about him mirrored what I had been told by the people at the Washington event that day last summer
He’s probably not going to score a lot this season unless it’s in transition or on offensive rebounds. But he is going to be a defensive problem if they have him defending threes and fours like they should.
I wont make any absurd claims about his passing, but he’s great at that, and once hes tuned in on the speed of NCAA D1 basketball……it will be fun to watch that too.
His project areas are bulking and scoring from 12-20 feet out.

He’s going to be a problem for whoever he is guarding, that is a face the basket player……if they MIsmanage him and have him guarding 6’8 270 lb guys in the paint it may not be fun.

Rgeorge : ask your closest connection to the program who is the fastest player on this current Oregon state team……baseline to baseline.

Rgeorge : ask your closest connection to the program who is the fastest player on this current Oregon state team……baseline to baseline. Baseline to baseline means almost zero in hoops. Can you get back to block a shot? Great. But, can you handle the ball & be in control at the typical sprint speed used in drills? Running full speed baseline to baseline is rarely a skill used/needed outside of drills. Quickness in & out of cuts, stop to start is. And, then there are a ton of those types that simply aren't great hoopers. In what I described that leaves out all the bigs. Pope isn't the best overall, but has the hoop savvy & skill to make him the most effective and sneaky fast. Wright seems faster than he looks and has improved his tempo. He tended to play "afraid" to make mistakes last season. But, has a nice first step and z-cut quicks. Lake, (walk on? Most is from watching HS) also is quick, but still learning to play at this level and is timid. Newcomer Craig is quick on tape... still a ways to go as D1 player. None are like "elite" in athleticism but Pope does a ton with what he has. He needs to tone his tendency to play "hero ball" and begin to trust others more.
