"ESPN to Officially Expand Washington State, Oregon State Into the Big 12? | "There's a 99% Chance."" (That's some good clickbait, but the show's still entertaining IMO)

Title is purposely designed to be long enough so that most people only ever see: Disgustingly flagrant click bait with ZERO actual new content. "I have been hearing"... and then he brings in another unemployed "professional" vlogger/"expert".
That's the way this works, non journalists propping up other non journalists, just giving their wild opinions, and parroting each other until people think it is actually news. This is not news, there is no new content here, just a couple guys chatting about their own brain childs.
The only thing that piqued my interest is that they think without a doubt we would be brought in at a 2/3s discount... Why would we do that???
Also, the idea that ESPN and Fox (not the conferences, not the NCAA, certainly not the fans) want the Pac-12 to die so that it can only have to deal with 4 conferences and not cut the money up any further.
Honestly even if the Big12 offered a full seat at the table, or the Big 10 offered us more than the *ucks got I would be tempted to stick with the new Pac, and apple, just to stick it in everyones eye.

Works for me, make it so. I do think we are a good fit for the big 12 would be fun to visit Orlando for a game every few years or so. They all seem like fun matchups. OSU vs OSU to OSU vs KState along with the other 5 pac-12 schools. No Brianer we need ESPN to lift the couch cushions and find some money.

I'm not sure the MWC plus the pac-2 will get you 20-30M per school and who is to say apple is interested in that? OSU needs the money to keep good coaches, players, and pay for facility debt, etc.

OSU needs the money to keep good coaches, players, and pay for facility debt, etc. So we take a discounted invitation and are still down $10+mil overall, and maybe worse; in comparison to the conference foes we are facing. Yeah Orlando will be fun the FIRST time... But what does that mean for travel costs and sports not named football? Plus, I am not convinced FOX/ESPN/CBS/et. al will make it to the point where they can fulfill these contracts. Cable is dying, streaming is the future. I want the Beavs to be a part of the future not a part of the past. Yes going the New Pac + streaming route would be harder than just acquiescing to the wants of FOX and ESPN to kill off the Pac-12, but in the end I think the rewards are higher, potentially MUCH higher. Last but not least I hate what is happening to college football, many of the things I love about it are being ruined or thrown away in the cable networks death throws for money and holding on to what they had. I would love for the Beavs to be one of the agents to help thwart this and accelerate cables death, plus I am just a vengeful cantankerous person and would love to reveal in the schadenfreude of the Traitorous Ten ending up in the gutter while the Beavs and Cougs are wildly successful

I just don't want us to be left out of power 4.

the very important points Correct me if I am wrong, but as long as the Pac-12 as an organization doesn't dissolve (ie Beavs and Cougs rebuilding the Pac), then we CAN"T be demoted to not being a power conference. Demoting a conference has to be unanimous, and we would never vote for ourselves to be demoted. That is important for money considerations (P5 get a bigger cut), but in terms of competition, with the new playoff format a lot of those concerns go away.

"ESPN to Officially Expand Washington State, Oregon State Into the Big 12? | "There's a 99% Chance."" (That's some good clickbait, but the show's still entertaining IMO) So funny. Just a few weeks ago, the host of this podcast was saying that the Big 12 CANNOT add WSU and OSU. He was a real douche about it and was pointing out that most people couldn't name x amount of former players from those teams or something stupid like that. Basically saying that they are too irrelevant to add. Sounded like someone with a lack of knowledge outside of his own fandom. Anyway, his opinion obviously makes no difference either way. Just funny to hear him change his tune.

The reason the OSU and WSU rumor has found legs again is, as the guest said in the podcast, the thinking that ESPN and Fox do not want a fifth power conference to be formed after it goes to four. In order to keep that from happening, the Big 12 would invite the two schools basically on behalf of ESPN (BTW, I disagree that this has any chance of happening at a cut rate for OSU and WSU (as the guest says). This has been tweeted out and discussed by "media" on X as well. Multiple sources have been cited but none (that I've seen) have been on the record. I know plenty of Bennyshouse members don't care for the "new journalism" and I agree that it is driven way too much by rumors and off the record comments. But these sites/podcasts, etc. often get the real story before the old school media because they are willing to run with stories that may or may not wind up to be accurate. Are they as trustworthy as the legacy media? Of course not. Does that make them automatically wrong? Of course not. That's basically it in a nutshell. Either it's a nothingburger or it will turn out to be true.

I just don't want us to be left out of power 4. If it's the MWC plus the Pac 2, as you mentioned earlier, the conference will have disdolved and there will be no P5. If the PAC Whatever exists next year, apparently the NCAS bylaws state it IS part of the Autonomous 5. The PAC 2 need to line up that Apple streaming deal and then invite teams. It doesn't absolutely have to be an even split right away - Colorado and Utah came in at a reduced rate for years not all that long ago. A reasonable streaming deal in hand is good leverage to have when dealing with invitees who are making significantly less.
